Last night was the last night of the NBA season and the first night of the NHL playoffs. Things are really kicking into gear and the big time games are starting to happen every night. We say this all the time, but this is the best time of the year.

The NHL playoffs were interesting in that three of the four games saw the road team win and all of the games push or go under their posted total. Playoff hockey is a different animal and these series could all be long ones, but that is definitely something to watch going forward. We have some big games tonight with the big favorite Chicago Blackhawks in action against the Nashville Predators as well as Toronto at Washington and Calgary at Anaheim. Playoff hockey is here, get excited!

Of course, there is also a full slate of baseball as well. You have to love baseball season as there is never a lack of games and there is always something out there that can make us money. Let’s get to the tips.

NHL Playoffs Betting Tips:

The Blackhawks are a favorite to win this whole thing once again and they could have one of the most lopsided match-ups of the first round. The Predators have just been so inconsistent this season and the Hawks have been the model of consistency for years. I could easily see this being a sweep.

That said, this is the playoffs and Pekka Rinne of the Predators is a very solid goalie. The first game of a series always features a little bit of feeling out as well and the unders are trending. I see this as a low scoring game and going under 5.5 runs. The Hawks should win, but it won’t be a blowout.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off a surprising two game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays and now get the juiciest match-up of the day against Bronson Arroyo and the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds aren’t a great team and Arroyo is an extremely hittable pitcher. His fastball has been at 84 miles per hour and the Brewers should be able to crush that thing. I’m all over Milwaukee -113 tonight.

The Jays on the other hand have looked very bad early. They are not hitting with runners in scoring position and have wasted some great pitching performances. They send Liriano to the mound tonight who only has recorded one out this season despite being a starter. In that game he allowed three hits, four walks and five runs while only retiring the single batter. I expect better from him over the long haul, but until we do we have to take the Orioles +120 tonight. They’ve actually hit this season.

Oakland and Kansas City play tonight and send Jesse Hahn and Jason Vargas to the mound, respectively. These aren’t the best pitchers and each could be one that we pick on later in the season. The only issue is, I don’t believe in either of these offenses to take advantage of the starter. The total on this one is high, but I think it will go under 9 runs simply because both offenses lack the firepower to take advantage of it.
