A big weekend in the MLB from the Seattle Mariners has sprung them back into the playoff race. They managed to sweep the Houston Astros to put themselves four back of the Astros and just 1.5 back of the Athletics for the Wild Card. They dropped the game last night to the Athletics, but that series will continue today with James Paxton on the mound against Mike Fiers. They should win that one and we’ll have ourselves a race down the stretch.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the stretch run plays out as Robinson Cano makes his return from suspension tonight. The offense has definitely missed him at times, but there is no clear fit for him in the lineup with Dee Gordon manning second base and Ryon Healy really heating up of late.

One place where there is no race is in the AL East, where the Red Sox are running away with the American League. They have an all-time great team this year and should be really scary come October. They draw a possible, although unlikely World Series opponent in tonight’s match-up as they face the Philadelphia Phillies. This should be a good one.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Red Sox are not only great, they are absolutely on fire right now. Their offense is hitting everything and I am not even really worried about Nick Pivetta today, even though he is having a great season. This team has been death on righties all season and that should definitely be the case again here today. Rick Porcello is a reliable pitcher and I like his match-up here against a below average Phillies offense. Take the Red Sox -127 here.

Another match-up I am digging today is the Blue Jays -133 over the Royals. The Royals are bad, really bad. They can’t hit lefties and Ryan Borucki has had a nice season to date. Heath Fillmyer can’t strike anyone out and walks a ton of batters. I don’t get why this line is so low, but I won’t hesitate to bet it.

My final MLB play of the night is the Angels -106 over the Padres. Why wouldn’t I like this? I know Mike Trout is out, but the Angels have still been a pretty good offense against righties on the season. Brett Kennedy has made one MLB start against the Brewers last week and he got absolutely rocked. I am willing to bet on that happening again.

WNBA Betting Tips:

We made hay last week as we took the Lynx to beat the Chicago Sky and they did easily. They won that game by 21 points and easily covered the spread. That game was in Chicago, this one is a home game for Minnesota. Not much has changed for either team in that span and I like the Lynx -9.5 to easily cover the spread again here and beat Chicago. The Sky have one of the worst defenses in the league and I see the Lynx as a team that will exploit that once again.
