The All-Star break is always a nice reset point for the MLB. Unfortunately for the Cardinals and Cubs, their reset point is a day shorter than the rest of the league as they play tonight on national television.

One of the biggest moves of the season happened yesterday as the Dodgers acquired Manny Machado from the Dodgers. This has been a long rumored move since the Dodgers lost Corey Seager and with the Dodgers starting to distance themselves from the pack in the NL West, it was time to make a move. That should make them favorites in the National League going forward and it just remains to be seen what else they will do. Bullpen help is a priority.

I’m sure we’ll see a lot of moves between now and the trade deadline. The Brewers and Phillies were both active in the Machado discussions while the Yankees and Red Sox are always looking for upgrades on each other. The race down the stretch should definitely be an interesting one, especially the way some of the teams went into the break.

The Mariners once thought to have an insurmountable lead on the second Wild Card now have the Athletics breathing down their neck. A slew of injuries hasn’t helped them and this one could get interesting.

The National League is a bit more intriguing with so many teams in contention. The Braves, Phillies and Nationals are all battling in the AL East/Wild Card while the Brewers are desperately hoping to get back to the playoffs with the Cubs in their way. This could be Washington’s last year of Bryce Harper so this could be their last chance to go for it while the Braves, Brewers and Phillies are hoping just to make it after a long playoff drought.

CFL Betting Tips:

Both of these teams are coming off a week off so they should both be coming in fresh. In their earlier meeting this year, the Roughriders beat the Tiger-Cats and revenge has to be on the mind. Especially with Masoli playing incredible right now, averaging a league high 344 yards passing per game. I was all set to go with the Ticats here, but this line is just too dang high. Taking the Roughriders +10.5 in this one.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Cubs have had quite a run of late as they now are in first place after being behind the Brewers for most of the season. They are the more talented team with much more upside so they are expected to hold on to that. The Cardinals are going in the other direction as they just had to fire their manager. The Cardinals hadn’t fired a manager in a very long time, but if anyone deserved it; it was probably him.

I don’t love the way Carlos Martinez has looked of late and the Cubs offense has been hot. While Kyle Hendricks isn’t one of the surefire aces in this league, he’s always good at home and the Cubs -150 should win this one.
