Today is the day! College basketball all day and all night. Yes, please.

This year feels more wide open than recent years. Virginia and Villanova are both +600 to win the whole thing which make them the “favorite”. I don’t see Virginia doing it after losing De’Andre Hunter though. Kansas at +1400 and Xavier at +1600 are pretty good odds for #1 seeds, but this is the tournament and seeds don’t mean anything after a couple of days. The classic teams who always play well in this are just as good of bets as anybody: Duke +750, UNC +1800 and Kentucky +2500.

Honestly, picking a champion feels impossible at this point. There is just so much basketball to be played before we get to that. It feels like picking the World Series winner in March. There is just too much that is yet to happen. Let’s concentrate on tonight.

March Madness Betting Tips:

Michigan feels like one of the top teams in their division and they draw Montana in the first round. While Montana had a great season, they didn’t play in the Big Ten and they didn’t have nearly the competition level of the Wolverines. This feels like one of the gimme games of the first round and I’m on it. Michigan -10.

Arizona -8 is another team with a nice first round draw. All due respect to Buffalo, but they didn’t play in the Pac-12 which is one of the best conferences in college basketball.

The five versus twelve game is always ripe for an upset and while I like Kentucky to advance in this one, Davidson might be the toughest match-up for any five versus twelve game on the slate over the next two days. Davidson is a tough out and they have done well in this tournament before. Kentucky had an up and down season so I don’t consider them a lock like Michigan. We’re taking Davidson +5.5 for the upset.

Teams that I often like in the tournament have a combination of a strong defense and a great offensive player that can take over the game when needed. Alabama checks both of those boxes. Collin Sexton is an absolute baller and future NBA player, we saw how he did in the SEC tournament when he carried his team deep in the tournament. His performance against Auburn was *chef’s kiss*. Alabama +2.5 is the play here.

I have one last tip, but it’s actually for tomorrow’s early game. I wanted to make sure you get it today because it’s an early game and it might be my favorite pick of the tournament.

Marshall +12 is being really underrated here. They run an offensive similar to the Houston Rockets and draw a great match-up against Wichita State who struggled to the finish. They were 0-5 against the spread to end the year and 11-18 ATS as a favorite for the season. They just shouldn’t be giving up this money points and I expect this game to be a total shoot-out with a high score. Marshall is my play of round of 64.
