This is the doldrums of the NBA and NHL season. Everyone is just waiting for the playoffs. There is some seeding stuff going on, but for the most part teams are shutting it down.

The only real race in the NBA is the four team race between the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat. The Nets have had a fantastic season, but they are in real danger of falling out of this race. They are 3-7 over their past ten games and need to get it straight soon. That would be a real disappointment for them to miss the playoffs after the season they’ve had.

The Magic have been playing some of their best basketball of the season of late and had a huge win last night. They are 8-2 over their past ten and feel like the best bet to lock up one of these spots. Miami had been playing well, but they’ve dropped their last two games and are currently the odd team out.

Of course, I’m not sure it matters. The bottom three teams in the East are going to play the Bucks, Raptors, and Sixers who are three of the best teams in this whole league. I don’t see any of those series last more than five games.

NBA Betting Tips:

Milwaukee Bucks at Philadelphia 76ers: This should be one of the marquee match-ups of the season except both teams are pretty locked in to their seeds and are just trying to stay healthy for the playoffs. The Sixers will sit Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler for this one. Honestly, I’m just not expecting a lot of defense from either of these teams. Both teams like to launch threes and I feel like we won’t see much defense surrounding them. This should be a rather high scoring game and I like the over here.

NHL Betting Tips:

Ottawa Senators at Buffalo Sabres: The Sabres have lost eight straight and only two of those losses have been by one goal. The rest has been blowouts and I’m expecting another one here. Ottawa has been playing alright of late, winning four of their last six, and anything is better than Buffalo at this point. The sportsbooks seem convinced that Buffalo breaks the streak here, but at this point it’s hard for me not to go with Ottawa.

MLB Betting Tips:

Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates: The total on this one is set at just 7.5 runs and I think a big part of that is the Reds’ 0-5 record in over/unders. This offense has a lot of good hitters, but they have disappointed thus far. This match-up though makes me think that’s all going to change.

The Reds will send Tyler Mahle to the mound who had a 4.98 ERA/5.25 FIP last season with 1.77 HR/9. While the Pirates send Jordan Lyles who had a 4.11 ERA/4.09 FIP. Neither of these starters is very impressive and I think that they can easily hit the over on this one.
