With the NBA still on the All-Star break, all of the focus is turning to the trading deadline. It’s not expected to be a big trade deadline, but there is always a few surprises in store and there are some huge rumors out there right now. Carmelo Anthony to the Cavs? Dwight Howard to the Heat? Personally, I think there are some big moves out there and I hope that we see them. Outside of the Cavs, the East is wide open and if you can make a move to get your team to the Eastern Conference Finals you have a chance.

The team I’ll be watching is the Miami Heat. They have movable assets and they are always in the market for a big move. Goran Dragic hasn’t been a perfect fit for them and I could easily see them making a move involving him and/or Hassan Whiteside. Who can they get back? Dwight Howard is available for nothing right now and the rumors of Atlanta wanting to move Al Horford and Jeff Teague won’t go away. This could get interesting. Stay tuned.

As far as actual games go, the NHL is in full swing tonight highlighted by a potential Stanley Cup match-up between the Los Angeles Kings and the Washington Capitals. The Kings have looked great this season but have struggled over the past month and Washington has just dominated the entire league all season. This could be a great match-up and if this is the Stanley Cup Final, we’ll be very lucky viewers.

NBA Futures Betting Tips:

With the rumors of the Hawks looking to move players and the Miami Heat looking to add players, I really like the Heat +145 to win the Southeast Division. Currently only two games separate the two teams and Atlanta doesn’t seem to have any interest in being the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. They’d rather start fresh next season than play the season out at this level. The Hornets aren’t sneaking up to take this one and I just feel like this is Miami’s division to lose.

Another solid play is the Houston Rockets won’t make the playoffs +110. A year ago they faced the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals and they have no interest in being destroyed by them in the first round this year. They are looking to give up Howard and they have motivation to lose. They will lose their first round pick if it falls below 14th so missing the playoffs is in their best interest. Pair this with Blazers make the playoffs +100 who are the most likely beneficiary of this and you’re in the money.

NHL Betting Tips:

The Kings and Capitals could be a very good Stanley Cup match-up, but tonight isn’t really a very match-up. The Kings are on the fourth game of a grueling East coast road trip and are probably just ready to get home. They’ve struggled a bit as of late and are probably ready to get home to regroup for the home stretch. The Caps have played great at home this season and Washington -130 should continue their winning ways.

Anaheim has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL this month with a 6-2 record and a 13-4 record in the second half. They get the pleasure of playing the lowly Edmonton Oilers tonight and they should continue their winning ways. The Ducks -115 should take advantage of an Oiler team that has scored only a single game in four of the past five games. Quack.
