A big series starts up today as the New York Mets host the Chicago Cubs in a rematch of last year’s National League Championship Series. The Chicago Cubs have taken last year’s great team and taken it to a completely different level this season. While the Mets are still very good, but have been hit with a rash of injuries and have failed to be as good as many thought they would be. They are still a playoff team though and we could very well see these two teams match-up again in this year’s playoffs. This should be a good one.

Another really interesting series kicking off today is the red hot Cleveland Indians heading to Toronto to face the Blue Jays. Cleveland has won 12 straight and looks to continue their success against a tough Toronto team. The Jays haven’t quite hit last year’s level yet as the offense has been a tick slower and the pitching hasn’t been as good as it was last year. That said, they were a .500 team at this point last season before catching fire the rest of the way. It’s easy to see that happening again this year with the collection of hitters they have. This is another possible playoff preview and a great match-up of top notch pitching against elite hitting.

MLB Betting Tips:

We mentioned on Tuesday that the bats have been hot across baseball and that led us to a 3-1 night. That trend is still holding true two days later and the game I like the most to go over tonight is the Royals and Cardinals in the battle of Missouri. The Cardinals are sending the disappointing Mike Leake to the mound against Chris Young who has been one of the worst starters in baseball this year with a 7.07 ERA. These are two tough offenses and I think they will easily go over 9 runs.

The Cubs are looking to take the first game of the series today against the Mets with John Lackey on the mound. Him and Steven Matz have pretty close numbers thus far this season, and I wouldn’t give a distinct advantage to either pitcher. I would, however, give a huge advantage to the Cubs offense that is averaging nearly two runs per game more than the Mets. New York’s offense is a mess right now and I fully expect the Cubs -130 to capitalize on that.

Similarly, the Indians will look to steal game one tonight against the Jays. They’ll have Carlos Carrasco on the mound who has been excellent on the road this season with a 1.95 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He’ll face aging knuckleballer RA Dickey who has actually fared worse at home this year, posting a 5.36 ERA that is nearly a run higher than his away numbers. I feel pretty confident that the Indians -116 will push their winning streak to 13 tonight in Canada.

I’m feeling a run scoring fest late in Seattle as the Orioles face the Mariners. The Mariners were one of the worst teams in June and the Orioles were one of the best. They have two pretty good pitchers on the mound, but the Orioles offense are coming into this one red hot as they’ve scored 5+ in seven straight. The Mariners bullpen has been taxed lately and I just feel like we’re going to see them give up some runs. I like this one for an Over 8.5 Runs as the Orioles will score and the Mariners will put up a fight.
