The big news in the NFL is Andrew Luck being out for the Colts for 4-6 weeks. It’s been a rough season for the Colts thus far, but maybe this is just the thing to get them to stop trying to win games and just take their place in the NFL draft. They have been in the playoffs every year since drafting Luck despite having some pretty mediocre squads and maybe a high pick would do them some good getting towards that elusive Super Bowl. It sucks to have one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks out for awhile, but for the Colts fans this might be for the best.

Tonight starts the NFL season back up with an AFC East match-up that has surprising playoff implications. The Bills and Jets have both been better than expected this year and both are vying for an AFC Wild Card. Rex Ryan returns to New York for the first time since being fired by the Jets as he now coaches the Bills. If you didn’t already know this, don’t worry, you’ll be hearing about it many times on the broadcast this evening. Both of these teams boast great defenses and so-so offenses so tonight should be a defensive battle.

There is also some NBA action tonight with the Golden State Warriors playing in prime time against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves aren’t even close to the Warriors level, but they do have some exciting young players who could be the foundation of the NBA’s next great team. I know that sounds hard to believe coming from Mnnesota, but Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns are for real. In the late game, the Clippers head to Phoenix to take on the Suns. The Clippers are the better team, but the Suns are dangerous on any given night. This could be a fun night of basketball.

NFL Betting Tips:

The reputations of the Jets and Bills are based on defense, but this season both teams are averaging over 26 points per game and both rank in the top 11 in the NFL. The fact that the total has went over in three of the last four meetings between these two teams helps as well. This one seems like an obvious over 42.5. The Bills are a different offense with Tyrod Taylor under center and his running should help negate the Jets secondary. The Jets receiving corp should also do well tonight as this one will feature a lot of passing.

NBA Betting Tips:

The early season success of the Timberwolves has been a good story in the wake of Flip Saunders death, but playing against the Warriors is a sign that the light schedule they started the season with is over. We might see some good highlights from KAT and Wiggins, but this will be a dominating performance from the Warriors. They are just so far advanced both defensively and offensively that the Wolves are playing checkers while the Warriors are playing championship basketball. Warriors -8 in a rout.

College Football Betting Tips:

The battle of the Techs leads tonight’s slate as Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech do battle. This was once a highlight of every college football season, but both teams have been extremely disappointing this year. Georgia Tech has the most impressive win between these two, upsetting Florida State, but they have been wildly inconsistent this season. They rank 11th in the ACC in run defense which opens the door for VT workhorse Travon McMillian to go crazy. I’d give the edge to Virginia’s defense as well as they are healthier and stronger. I like Virginia Tech +3 tonight in a close one.
