Welcome to 2016!

January is always a good time for sports. The biggest thing is of course the Super Bowl – not in January, but the road to it with the final NFL regular season games and the playoffs.

It’s a pretty loaded January so let’s see what we’ve got for January 2016 in our January 2016 Sporting Events Calendar:

Basketball:

Nothing notable in the NBA in January.

Boxing:

The most noteable boxing fights are David Haye vs Mark de Mori on January 17th from the O2 Arena and Robert Guerrero vs Danny Garcia on January 24th. That one takes place at the Staples Centre in LA.

Cricket:

The South Africa vs England second test is January 2nd, third test begins on the 14th and fourt test begins on the 22nd.

Darts:

The BDO World Professional Championships take place January 2nd-10th and the PDC World Championships Final is on January 3rd.

Football:

The regular season of the NFL wraps up on Sunday, January 3rd. The wild card rounds take place January 9th, with the divisional rounds on January 16th-January 17th.

The conference championships then take place on January 24th, and the most anticipated event of all, the Pro Bowl, is on January 31st, 2016.

Golf:

The PGA Tour has the HyundaiTournament of Champions beginning January 7th. The Sony Open in Hawaii is January 14th, with the CareerBuilder Challenge on January 21st. Finally the Farmers Insurance Open is on January 28th.

The European Tour has the BMW SA Open beginning January 7th. The Joburg Open is January 14th, the Eurasia Cup January 15th, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship January 21st, and the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters on January 27th.

The Champions Tour returns on January 23rd with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.

The LPGA returns on January 28th wht the Coates Golf Championship.

Hockey:

The NHL continues as per normal in January. Most notable of course is the All Star Weekend January 30th-31st.

There’s also the 2016 Winter Classic of course which is on January 1st, 2016 and featured the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Boston Bruins.

Mixed Martial Arts:

UFC kick off the new year with a bang, with UFC 195: Lawler vs Condit.

On January 17th we have UFC Fight Night 81 – headlined by Dillashaw vs Cruz. And we wrap the month up with UFC On Fox 18 which features Ryan “will never get a title shot” Bader versus Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

Bellator 148 takes place on January 29th with Koscheck headlining which should be pretty great.

Snooker:

The Masters takes place beginning January 10th and goes for a week.

Soccer:

The FA Cup Third Round takes place January 9th-10th. The African Nation Championships begin on January 16th and go all the way through to February 7th.

Tennis:

The Australian Open begins January 18th and continues until the end of the month.

Wrestling:

WWE Royal Rumble 2016 will be held on January 24th, 2016.
