Portugal take on Austria in the final game of the second round of matches on June 18th at the Parc des Princes in Paris in a game that is going to be make-or-break for Austria.

Portugal take on Austria after drawing 1-1 with Iceland in a game they dominated in terms of possession, and they just couldn’t find a way to break down a tough Icelandic defence. Talismanic forward Cristiano Ronaldo had a few chances, but just couldn’t quite take them. It was the type of performance you would expect from Portugal, though, with great passing moves, slick football and just lacking that cutting edge up front. But with Ronaldo on the prowl, they can get you from anywhere in your half, and are dangerous from set-pieces.

Austria, after coming into Group F as dark horses, will be disappointed with their 2-0 defeat to Hungary. They’ll be missing Aleksandar Dragovic after he was sent off, which will be a blow to them, as the Austrian side don’t really have depth of other squads in the tournament. Austria will need to win this, or they will more than likely be on their way home.

Portugual have faced Austria 10 times over the years, with the majority of the games being draws, 5 in total. Portugal have won 2 games, with Austria winning 3. Their last competitive match was in 1995 in qualification for Euro ’96, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Portugal vs Austria Match Betting Tips:

I’m looking at the odds here and scratching my head. Before Austria went down to 10 men, they were playing some really attractive football, and were carving Hungary open at nearly every opportunity. Did they look as slick as Portugal looked against Iceland? Well, no, but the odds are far too big at 5.0, or 4/1. Austria to win is the real value play here. Portugal never impress me, and they tend to fail to deliver on the big stage. Sure, they have Cristiano Ronaldo, but one man does not make a team. Austria also know they need this win, so they are going to want to back up that initial promise and get themselves back into contention to qualify from Group F.

Portugal vs Austria Prop Bets:

Watching both sides, one thing was clear, they love to play attacking, free-flowing football. They were both exciting to watch, which also leaves them open at the back. I’m actually amazed to see that over 2.5 goals is odds-against. Yes, we know Portugal aren’t always great at bagging the goals, but both sides just play that style of football that screams goals. I can see a few goals in this, and might even be tempted by over 3.5, but I think we’ll just stick to the safer option of over 2.5 goals. I reckon we can sit back and watch a great game of football here.
