We’re ticking closer and closer to real football with just a couple of weeks to go. Until then we have some NFL preseason action and tons of baseball to get to. The division leaders in baseball are starting to pull away with only the AL East, AL West and NL West having division leaders with three game leads or less. There is still a lot of baseball to be played, but the playoff match-ups are starting to take shape. Well, except for the AL Wild Card which is pretty wide open right now. These next two months should be crucial and if things stay as they are it could come down to the very last weekend of the season before it is all decided.

We have tips for baseball and football today so let’s not waste any time and get right into them. Don’t forget to check back over the weekend for our WWE Summerslam picks.

MLB Betting Tips:

There should be plenty of homeruns to go around tonight in Arlington as the Detroit Tigers meet the Texas Rangers. The Tigers showed what they can do with the long ball and tonight they get struggling lefty Martin Perez. The Tigers are the second best team in the American League against left handed pitchers . The Tigers send Alredo Simon to the mound who has a 25-17 record over the past two seasons despite a 4.32 FIP. He should give up some runs against a Texas offense that ranks third in the AL in OPS against right handers. This one should easily go over 9.5 runs with a potential for going WAY over.

The Royals and Red Sox do battle in Fenway Park tonight and the Royals have opened as a slight favorite. This is likely due to left handed starter Danny Duffy taking the mound. The Red Sox have hit lefties very hard this season and Duffy is one of the weaker starting options tonight with a 4.65 FIP on the season. Luckily for the Royals, they have an amazing bullpen and Wade Miley starts on the other side. While Miley has pitched okay this season, but his defense often betrays him and the bullpen will do him no favors. The Royals are hot and should be favored by way more than this against a weak Red Sox team. This line feels like a gift, Royals -115.

NFL Preseason Betting Tips:

The Redskins host the Lions tonight in what could be a big night for Colt McCoy. Last season before his injury McCoy was the Redskins starting quarterback, but now he finds himself as the third stringer. He definitely has the talent and tonight he should have the drive to prove himself as a worthy backup in this league. With Detroit unlikely to play any starters past the first quarter, this will be McCoy’s night to shine. The Redskins logjam at quarterback probably won’t do them well in the regular season, but in the preseason it is a benefit. Redskins -2.5 is the play thanks to a strong night from Colt.
