An 0-1 record last night.

The Astros just let us down yesterday. Justin Verlander was absolutely cruising through five shutout innings, but then he had a couple of rough at-bats in the sixth and ended up giving three runs. The Astros offense wasn’t there and this one ended up as a loss.

The lines have been tight lately, but there are a couple of games that I like today.

Minnesota Twins vs. Texas Rangers Betting Tips:

This pitching match-up is just too good for me to pass up. Stephen Gonsalves gets another start for the Twins here and in his two appearance this year he has allowed four earned runs in each of them. He plays tonight’s game in a very hitter friendly park. While the Rangers haven’t been a top offense this year, they can put up runs and this seems like a great opportunity to do just that.

Drew Hutchison is on the other mound and I also like him to give up some runs. In four starts this year he has a 6.52 ERA/6.37 FIP and a 1.86 HR/9. This park is notoriously favorable to hitters and it should be humid. The Twins offense has been hitting the ball well of late with a 107 wRC+ over the past two weeks.

Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres Betting Tips:

The Colorado Rockies are still in this playoff race and they have a chance to make some real headway with this series against the Padres while the Diamondbacks and Dodgers beat up on each other. I have talked a lot about their hitting against right handed pitchers this year, but what I haven’t talked about is their pitching which is what is keeping them in this race. Their starters have been excellent and I’m feeling good about Antonio Senzaleta in this match-up. He’s coming off a tough start, but he’s bounced back well before and the Padres offense isn’t one to be scared about.

I also like the Rockies offense in this one, even though Brett Kennedy is a righty. Kennedy is yet to have a game that I would call encouraging and I like him to get hit once again here. The Rockies need this game if they want to keep up with the big boys out West and I think they’ll do just that.
