It has been a very weird couple of days in baseball. The lowly Minnesota Twins have absolutely lit up the frontline starters of the Cleveland Indians in Cleveland the past two nights. Max Kepler has been a star, but it really has been a team effort as they’ve gone over ten runs both nights. This has coincided with the Tigers getting hot (and the return of slugger JD Martinez) and suddenly the AL Central is a race, with the Indians holding just a two game lead. The same type of thing is happening in NL West with the lowly Phillies taking down the Giants two nights in a row and now the Dodgers are just two games back.

We’ve also seen the Mariners take down the Red Sox two nights in a row and if the playoffs started the day the Red Sox would be on the outside looking in. A huge disappointment considering how great their offense is and how many moves they have made to improve their team this season. The Mariners are seemingly getting hot at the right time because after tonight’s game against the Sox their schedule gets a whole lot easier with series against the Athletics, White Sox, Yankees, Brewers and two against the Angels. If this team is going to make a run (and we think that they will) now will be the time.

Things are getting interesting and weird stuff starting to happen. It’s August baseball and this stuff is starting to matter. Let’s take a look at the tips we have today as we have a couple of nice underdog plays and a really low price considering the match-up in the Red Sox vs. Mariners game.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Orioles are riding in first place despite some atrocious starting pitching. One of the moves they made to improve it in the second half was by acquiring Wade Miley from the Seattle Mariners. Only problem is, he’s not that good. He had a 4.98 ERA pitching mostly at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field and will now go to a very pitcher unfriendly Camden Yards. Worse for him, he faces the Rangers tonight who rank 9th in OPS against left handed pitching and that was before they acquired Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy. Basically, I think the Orioles are going to get killed tonight. Rangers +134

One of the hottest teams in baseball is the Colorado Rockies who are an awesome 11-2 over the past two weeks. They play at home tonight against the Dodgers who they rocked 12-2 last night. They go against Kenta Maeda today who has been putting up a really good rookie season. He pitched in Coors back in April and pitched six innings of shutout ball. I don’t see that happening again today. It’s not that I don’t believe he’s good (he is), but Coors Field in August is much different than April and nobody is immune to the power of Coors. I have to go with the hot team and the home field advantage here, Rockies +149.

In two career starts against Seattle (although neither of them came this year), Drew Pomeranz has never allowed a run. Ariel Miranda is a 27-year old rookie making his ML debut today against the most dangerous offense in baseball. I think I am going to go with the Red Sox -134. Seems like a safe bet.
