Look out, here come the Mariners. If you’ve been reading my tips this season I have always thought the Mariners were a much better team than they had played like in June and July and had them tagged as a team to watch in the second half thanks to their great run differential. Now they are one of the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star Break and sit just 2.5 games behind the Tigers for the second Wild Card. They beat Detroit last night and go at it with them again tonight in Seattle. The division lead of Texas is still seven games, but there is still a lot of time left in the season.

Another team we’ve been watching is the Los Angeles Dodgers who are now just one game back behind the Giants. The Dodgers are one of those teams that everyone thinks is terrible for some reason or another, but is not terrible at all. They have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, even without Clayton Kershaw, and the hitters are finally starting to hit. It’s off the board right now, but I would put the Giants as a big underdog to win this division. Stay tuned.

We have some good games tonight including the aforementioned Seattle and Detroit game so let’s get right into it.

MLB Betting Tips:

Let’s start off with the Mariners and Tigers. This is a pretty interesting match-up tonight as the Mariners send journeyman Wade Leblanc to the mound against the young Daniel Norris. Leblanc has put up some great games for the Mariners despite not having great stuff. He seems to just know how to pitch in a way that the other team won’t score many runs. Meanwhile, Norris has great stuff but he has really struggled with the long ball this season with a 2.08 HR/9 rate. That is not a good look against the Mariners who have an MLB best 57 homeruns against left handed pitching. It just seems like everything is going right for this team right now and I don’t think Daniel Norris is going to be the guy to stop it. Mariners -108

The Diamondbacks spent a lot of money to contend in the offseason, but currently have the second worst record in all of baseball. One of those big money deals was for Zack Greinke who is coming off the DL to start tonight against the Mets. I love Greinke no matter how bad his team is, but coming off the DL I’d rather take a wait and see approach. He has a tough match-up against Steven Matz and the Mets. Matz has been great this season and I think he’ll do enough to shut down Arizona while Greinke should be out of the game early. Mets -127

Tyler Chatwood of the Rockies is another pitcher who has just been getting it done. Luck has definitely played a factor in his 3.63 ERA as his walk rate is high, but I like him a lot more than the Rangers AJ Griffin in tonight’s game. Griffin’s 5.01 FIP and 1.60 HR/9 are big red flags at Coors Field and I always like the Rockies +109 at home.

For runs, I really like the Athletics and Orioles game tonight. Zachary Neal gets the start for Oakland and his 5.54 ERA is pretty close to his true talent level. Those numbers against a team like the Orioles is trouble. He goes against Wade Miley who is always good to give up 3-4 runs and possibly more. The total on this one is set for too low for the pitchers involved and I love Oakland/Baltimore Over 8.5 Runs.
