Day Three of the BDO 2012 World Championship starts without the presence of John Walton and Martin Phillips. Both men suffered shock defeats, while Scott Waites and Ted Hankey progressed through to the second round. Tonight sees the last of the first round action, and we still have one or two big names left to play.

Tony West versus Geert De Vos.

Not a bad year for Tony West, and he’s sitting at No.11 in the BDO rankings. He’s taking on Geert de Vos, the Belgian ranked 24th in the BDO. West didn’t impress in Zuideruin, while De Vos didn’t look too bad, beating Gary Robson.

The bookies really like west here, but I’m going to suggest a little dabble on the outsider here, as both men have comparable form of late.

Geert de Vos to beat Tony West: 8/5 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Alan Norris versus Benito van de Pas.

The bookies have this as a close match, but I really like Norris here. He won their last meeting in the Czech Open 4-2, losing 6-5 to Dean Winstanley in the final of that tournament. Norris is in decent form coming into this tournament, beating Tony O’Shea in Zuideruin, too. Van de Pas has climbed up through the rankings in double quick time and he’s the seeded player here, but that’s a misnomer, I believe. He hasn’t been ing reat form for the best part of 8 months, and I can’t see Norris being troubled by him.

Alan Norris -1.5 sets to beat Benito van de Pas: 13/8 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Dean Winstanley versus Joey ten Berge.

A great year for Dean Winstnaley. He’s making finals all over the BDO circuit and has cemented his place in the upper echelons of darts. Joey ten Berge has just been unlucky with the draw here, as against other players I’d fancy his chances, as he’s come into decent form at the end of last year. But I can’t see anything other than a Winstanley win. Winstnaley’s scoring is just phenomenal and as long as he doubles reasonably well, the Dutchman will have no chance.

The line for 180s is 5.5 and I can see Winstanley getting close to that himself. If Ten Berge can weigh in with a couple, the line should be beaten easily.

Over 5.5 180s in Dean Winstanley versus Joey ten Berge: Evens @ Paddy Power.

Recommend: 2.5 units.

And that’s it for the first round of the 2012 BDO World Championship. I’ll be back tomorrow with more tips for the second round.
