Group G in the 2018 World Cup looks to be the most transparent in terms of qualification. Belgium and England are expected to qualify and Panama and Tunisia are expected to be the whipping boys.

Group G kicks off on Monday June 18th and the first clash will see Belgium vs Panama.

Belgium are one of those teams that for many years many have had high hopes for. Euro 2016 saw them eliminated in the Quarter Finals by Wales, and they also failed in the 2014 World Cup quarter finals against Argentina. So of course after an excellent qualification campaign with 9 wins and 1 draw they go into this one with high expectations again.

It wasn’t the toughest group however Greece and Bosnia are tricky opponents and even Estonia have some positives to them so it’s impressive that they did so. They scored at will with 43 goals in 10 games and just 6 conceded. It’s tough to rate their overall quality but we’ve seen solid performances in friendlies.

Panama are in their first World Cup and qualified with a -1 goal difference beating out Honduras, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. They had a 3-4-3 record but to their credit they earned it with solid results against the likes of the United States and Mexico.

Belgium Analysis:

As per usual on paper, Belgium have the ability to go far. They’ve got such a ridiculously talented squad with guys like Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku. They have a beautiful possession came and a midfield brimming with creativity.

I mean this team is absolutely ridiculous in terms of quality. One narrative that is interesting is reading back on De Bruyne criticizing the tactics. A lot of people feel they need to hit the ground running and hey why not do that against Panama?

The question is how they approach this one. Do they go to rack up a score and put fear in their opponents? Or take their foot off the pedal to save themselves for the other two teams in the group?

Panama Analysis:

I mean not much is expected of Panama but Roman Torres picked up an injury and that’s going to hurt them.

One thing they do offer is hard workers. Someone like Gabriel Gomez for example is an absolute workhorse and controls things on the pitch.

Not much is expected of this team of course but teams really better not take them lightly. They’re hard working and will be chasing the balls around a lot. I do see Belgium tiring them out though and taking advantage late on with some goals.

Belgium vs Panama Betting Tips:

You always have to be wary in games like this. You never know if Belgium are looking past the underdogs or not or how Panama will perform. They may really bring it. I’ve debated it and think I’ll go with Over 2.5 Goals for 3u. Never know if Belgium will try to push up the score or whether they’ll be happy with 2-0 or 3-0. Hopefully the latter. What I can see is it being relatively tight but Belgium opening them up and tiring them out.
