The 2020 season is upon us and we are very excited to bring the Bet MLB System to SBT. The system that I created takes into account starting pitchers, bullpens, pitcher home/road splits, team left/right hitting splits, home park factors, and recent play. We’ve had good success with it over the past couple of seasons at BetMLB.Org, but are bringing it exclusively to SportsBettingTips.Org for the 2020 season.

The season is going to be different with only 60 games, played during some of the hottest months of the year. A lot of times in baseball we can see a team do great in a small sample size, but the data says something different. Over a 162 game season, we can eventually profit off of that team. During a 60 game season, it becomes less certain. That said, I think there is a strong divide between the haves and the have-nots in this league and we should see some sense of normalcy throughout the divisions. We might see some weirdness on an individual basis, but for the teams I think we are going to be pretty close to normal.

To get ready for the 2020 season, let’s take a look at the wide variety of betting odds currently available.

MLB 2020 American League Champion Betting Odds:

The Yankees are going to be very good this season. Last year, they had a ton of injuries on the offensive side and they still finished with one of the top-3 offenses in all of baseball. They have a ton of depth and with the addition of Gerrit Cole to the rotation, they have the best projected starting pitching staff in the league. James Paxton has had trouble staying healthy, but when he’s on – he’s amazing. If he benefits from this shortened season, the Yankees could be very dangerous.

Houston should be very good, but the loss of Cole really does a number on their pitching depth. The team replaced him with Zack Greinke. He’s one of the best pitchers of this era, but he’s also 36 and has seen his velocity dip over the past few seasons. It hasn’t hurt him yet, but the schedule is not very friendly to him and all the projection systems see him having a ERA/FIP over 4. Verlander is also not young and he’s spent the offseason rebuilding his delivery after a groin injury. The Astros season heavily relies on the health and performance of these two players.

The Rays are projected to once again have some of the best pitching in all of baseball. Blake Snell is amazing, Charlie Morton had a great 2019, and Tyler Glasnow has some really high upside. The issue with them is they play in the same division as the Yankees so we are looking at a likely Wild Card scenario where they have to beat someone in a flukey one-game playoff. They have the pitching to do it, but I would like to see some better odds on this.

The bet that I would make for maximum value is on the Minnesota Twins. I think the pitching could be very good if Jose Berrios and Rich Hill can manage to stay healthy and we know this offense is extremely dangerous. They had the top offense in the league last year and I can easily see them repeating that here with the addition of Josh Donaldson to an already dangerous lineup. I wish they had done a little more to upgrade their bullpen, but there is always the possibility of a mid-season trade.

MLB 2020 AL Central Champion Betting Odds:

The Twins -150 to win the American League Central is my best bet in the American League and I think they are going to absolutely run away with this division.

The Indians are a solid team, but they have done so little to upgrade the obvious hole on offense that I wonder if they were even attempting to. The team traded away both Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer so the starting pitching depth is no longer there. The White Sox could be a threat, but they still seem like they are a year away.

MLB 2020 AL East Champion Betting Odds:

The Yankees are going to win this division.

MLB 2020 AL West Champion Betting Odds:

FanGraphs has the Astros as the second best team in all of baseball. So from that perspective, they are a great bet here.
