Baseball is right around the corner and the biggest news of the offseason thus far just went down this morning as Manny Machado signed with the San Diego Padres on a 10-year, $30 million dollar contract. This is the biggest free agent deal in MLB history and should stay that way until Bryce Harper finally signs with a team in the next week or so.

The Padres are an interesting team to sign him. This team has not made the playoffs since 2006 and they have not had a winning record since 2010. They have been doing a huge rebuild over the last few seasons and we’ve seen signs of that rebuild starting to work with players like Franmil Reyes and Francisco Mejia making their debuts last season. This is definitely a move that signals them going for it.

That will be tough though as they play in the same division as the Dodgers, the richest team in the National League that has made back-to-back World Series, and the Rockies who have been in the playoff hunt the last couple of seasons as well. They need their starting pitching to take a step forward if they hope to compete.

We’re still a month out from baseball though so let’s get into today’s tips. Tonight we have hockey and a couple of overs that I am loving.

NHL Betting Tips:

Tampa Bay Lightning at Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers have been playing well of late, but they are running into the best scoring team in the league here tonight. The Lightning are scoring nearly four goals per game and I really seeing them hitting at least that number here. The Flyers have allowed 3.31 per game on the season and the Lightning are just playing great hockey right now. A 4-3, 5-3 kind of game is very likely here and we’re taking the over.

Bet Lightning/Flyers over 6.5 goals

Toronto Maple Leafs at St. Louis Blues: The Blues are the hottest team in the NHL right now with a 10-game winning streak and they get their toughest challenge of that run tonight as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs who have the second biggest point differential in the league. This is the kind of game that you just want to sit back and enjoy. For this one though, we are thinking the over is looking great. This should be a war and we’re expecting both offenses to bring their A-Game here.

Bet Leafs/Blues over 6 goals

College Basketball Betting Tips:

Vanderbilt at Tennessee: I typically try to stay away from lines this big, but this is just one of the biggest mismatches you will see in college basketball. Vanderbilt is 9-16 on the season and will be without Darius Garland for this one. The Volunteers are having a great season at 23-2 and they should absolutely roll here. They are winning games by about +16 on the season and when you throw in the talent disparity, them covering the big line here seems like the pick of the night.
