Today we have the kick-off of a few golf tournaments that we covered fully yesterday. Thus far Bernhard Langer, our pick to win at 6/1, is -5 and tied for second in the Senior Open Championship. It’s really early, but it is always encouraging to see our picks get off to a good start like that.

Outside of that, it’s all about baseball right now. A huge series is kicking off in Missouri tonight as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Kansas City Royals. This interstate, interleague battle is a match-up of two of the best teams in baseball right now and is a potential World Series match-up. It should be a good one. We also have a Clayton Kershaw start against the Mets tonight. Kershaw has been absolutely on fire lately and faces the terrible Mets offense. We won’t have a tip for that one as the line is an insane -226, but for those of you who play daily fantasy baseball at FanDuel Daily Fantasy Sports; he’s probably worth it.

Let’s take a look at the games we have today and make our picks.

MLB Betting Tips:

As we mentioned before, the big match-up tonight is the Cardinals and Royals in St. Louis. This is probably the biggest series these two teams have played since the 1985 World Series and the days of George Brett and Ozzie Smith. Today’s match-up features John Lackey going for the Cardinals and Chris Young going for the Royals. These are two pitchers with great stats who probably aren’t all that great. They’ve benefited from luck and their amazing defenses all season. With teams this good though, it’s hard to imagine luck being much of a factor. I think that each team will hit the opposing pitcher harder than they’ve been hit all season tonight and we should see a game that goes over 7 runs.

Another potential playoff match-up tonight is the Washington Nationals taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates behind Francisco Liriano are huge favorites tonight at home. Doug Fister has struggled this season, but this line seems unusually high for me. These are two great teams and the Nationals actually hit lefties pretty well. This is just a value play and I would only recommend playing it for half of a unit, but Nationals +180 seems like a potential steal.

In a game with far less playoff implications, none to be exact, we also have the Brewers going to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks called up minor league starter Zack Godley for this one and while Godley could one day have a good career, it’s hard to believe that will start tonight. Before tonight Godley has made just three starts above Single-A in his career and earlier this month he lost to a team called the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. To go from Double-A to the majors is a hard road for any player, but to do that when you weren’t even dominating seems irresponsible on the part of management. The Brewers offense has been hot lately and we expect them to hit him just as well as the Blue Wahoos did, if not better and the Brewers -137 is our pick. We also fully expect this one to go over 8.5 runs.
