Happy Jose Day everyone! For those who don’t know what that means, Jose Fernandez is an excellent young pitcher for the Miami Marlins who returns from Tommy John surgery today. Fernandez was absolutely dominating in his early career. He won the Rookie of the Year, was an All-Star and finished third in Cy Young voting in 2013 and then started out hot in 2014 before going out with an injury. Today marks his return after 13 months out and he could be scarier than ever as Tommy John surgery is known to actually improve a pitcher’s velocity. It’s good to have him back and while we won’t be tipping his game today, we will be putting a pin on him to follow in the future.

The lead story in sports last night was probably the fury of NBA free agent action. As exciting as it was there wasn’t a whole lot of big time movement with one of the biggest surprises being Kevin Love re-signing with the Cavaliers. It really felt like he was ready to go to a team where he could be the star, but the lure of championships is strong and Cleveland will be the favorite for next season.

In actual sporting action, England lost a heart breaker in the Women’s World Cup as they lost to Japan by one goal. One goal that they inadvertently scored on themselves. A tough break for England who will play Germany in the third place game on Saturday. Japan moves on to face the United States in the finals on Sunday.

There is a lot of MLB games tonight as well as some WNBA that we have tips for so let’s get into it.

WNBA Betting Tips:

While Glory Johnson’s pregnancy takes away some of the TMZ style drama from this match-up and Skylar Diggins recent injury takes out some of the competitiveness, this still should be a competitive game tonight between the Tulsa Shock and Phoenix Mercury. The story of this one will be the battle down low between Phoenix’s Brittany Griner and Tulsa’s Odyssey Sims. While Diggins injury certainly changed the outlook of this game, I still think Tulsa has what it takes to play Phoenix close. Tulsa +7.5.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies finish up their three game series tonight in Philly with the total set at eight runs. Two of the three games in this series have gone over with the other game being a seven run affair. The battle between two of the worst teams in the National League should go over again as the combined ERA of the starters currently sits at 12.68. Yes, I do believe this one is going over 8 runs.

In Baltimore, Yovani Gallardo goes to the mound for the Rangers against the Orioles. Gallardo has been absolutely on fire as of late and he has not allowed an earned run in each of his last three starts. He goes against Kevin Gaussman who has struggled with injuries this year and spent much of the season coming out of the bullpen. The former fourth overall pick Gausman is making his second start of the season after going 7-7 with a 3.57 ERA as a starter last season. Despite the recent track record of the two pitchers, the Orioles are a slight favorite in this one. However, I’ll believe Yovani Gallardo can lose when he gives up some runs. I don’t think that’s going to be today. Take the Rangers +133.
