Tragedy struck in Major League Baseball yesterday as Tyler Skaggs of the Los Angeles Angels was found unresponsive in his hotel room and pronounced dead. This is an emotional loss for the team for sure and something you hate to see anywhere in life as he was just 27-years old and starting a family.

We had actually taken the Rangers over the Angels yesterday and when I went to check the score later that night I saw the game was cancelled. Not due to rain or something like that, but it just said “Tragedy” and that is something you hate to see. You get this dark feeling as you know you have to read whatever the story is, but you really don’t want to.

What’s really sad is the Angels’ organization lost another homegrown drafted pitcher in Nick Adenhart at the age of 22 just a few years ago. That organization and their fans have had some hard times for sure.

They are playing today with the same pitchers, but I am not touching that game today. There is too much emotional baggage there and it feels weird to try and profit off of such a thing.

The season never stops though and we have a full slate of games tonight. I’m once again using the Bet MLB System that went 1-1 last night. Tonight, it has two games that it likes and both are underdog plays. Let’s take a look.

MLB Betting Tips:

Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates: We took the Pirates over the Cubs yesterday and the Pirates won big, 18-5. This game was 7-1 after two innings and the Pirates never really looked back. We are looking for a similar result here today.

The Cubs send Kyle Hendricks to the mound. He’s been their ace this season, but he has been considerably worse in his road starts with a 5.49 ERA/4.99 FIP. The Pirates offense is really hitting right now and that split could be a big problem for him here.

Joe Musgrove goes for the Pirates and he’s have a solid season. He has a 4.27 ERA/3.61 FIP with some bad left on base luck. He does a great job of limiting walks, allowing groundballs and not allowing homeruns. My favorite pitcher profile.

The Pirates are once again underdogs here and once again I feel like they are a good value.

St. Louis Cardinals at Seattle Mariners: I have my reservations about the Mariners, but they are really hitting the ball well this season. They called up JP Crawford who has done nothing but hit since coming up. The team has a 110 wRC+ over the past two weeks and a 109 wRC+ against righties on the season. They face Jack Flaherty here who has a 4.75 ERA/4.77 FIP on the year with a high HR rate and bad road numbers.

The thing that worries me here is the Mariners bullpen, but they are deploying an opener in Matt Carasiti and the bullpen as a whole has been much better of late. I still have my worries, but I think the Mariners are a great value at home here.
