As the month of June winds down, things are still pretty wide open in the AL Wild Card race. The Yankees have really struggled as of late and are now in a virtual tie with the Red Sox for first in the AL East. It seems like the loser of that race will grab one Wild Card, but there are eight teams that are still in play for that second Wild Card. The only teams I would count out at this time are the Athletics, Tigers and White SoxB who are all eight games under .500 or worse.

The good thing about this is that the race will be exciting. The bad part is that it’s hard to see a lot of players being available in trades since there are so few sellers. We still have the messy National League, but the sheer amount of teams in the race means that the prices for players will be higher.

Based simply on numbers, it looks like the winner will either be the Rays or the Rangers. They have the best run differential numbers here while the Orioles, Twins, Jays and Royals are all -20 or worse. You have to think they’ll come down to earth at some point. The one team I am watching is the Seattle Mariners who have had awful injury luck thus far this season, but are still just a -8. That said, they just lost back-to-back games to the Phillies with their best pitchers on the mound thanks to a leaky bullpen. Basically, I don’t know what will happen. Baseball.

MLB Betting Tips:

One of the teams that I don’t believe in is the Orioles and the reason for that is their starting pitching, it’s horrible. Tonight they send Ubaldo Jimenez to the mound against the Blue Jays and I couldn’t be more excited. Over 10 runs seems small with him on the mound. He allowed 9 runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Rays last time out and I think the Jays are just as punishing.

I truly don’t understand the betting odds on this Jays vs Pirates series. On Tuesday I thought the line was low and the Rays won. Tonight, they send Chris Archer to the mound against Jameson Taillon and the Rays -125 again feels low. Archer is one of the best pitchers in the game and while Taillon has looked good as of late, he’s not going deep in this game and the Rays offense is tough.

Homer Bailey made his season debut last week and promptly got rocked for 8 runs in 1 2/3 innings. Tonight he faces the Brewers at the homer-happy Great American Ballpark with the Brewers ace, Jimmy Nelson on the mound. I’m all over Milwaukee -109 tonight.

This Yankees and White Sox series had been teasing us with scoring before the Yankees exploded for 12 runs last night. I think things could get to that level again tonight. James Shields has allowed five homeruns in his last three starts, the Bronx Bombers have 122 homers on the season which is second in baseball. You know how this ends. Over 10.5.
