A 1-0 record back on Saturday.

Travel is tough. You think you have all this time, but you never really do. I posted tips the first two days, but the last two with travel it was just not doable. I’m glad I was able to send out a winner on Saturday at least with the Astros over the Red Sox. Did I bet it at the casino? Of course not, that time change really messed with me and I had no idea when any games started.

Anyway, back to the action today. The system didn’t like a ton of games today, but it did spit out a couple. Let’s take a look.

Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros Betting Tips:

Corbin Martin is not the type of pitcher I would normally back as he has a 4.97 ERA/5.72 FIP in three starts this season. He does have decent strikeout numbers, but the reason I am backing him is that he is on the Astros and the Astros are great. They have one of the best bullpens in the league and they are smart enough to not ask too much of Martin.

Jon Lester goes for the Cubs and he was hit hard in his last start. Even with that bad one, he’s still outpitching his FIP which will regress at some point. He has a 2.68 ERA/3.41 FIP and is facing the best hitting team against lefties in this league. The Astros crush lefties and I don’t have a ton of faith in the Cubs bullpen. Houston looks like a solid play here.

Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Tips:

The Mariners were a team we would bet early in the season, but that time has long passed. They still hit very well, but the pitching is not great. Well, except Marco Gonzales who goes today. He has a 3.41 ERA/3.96 FIP on the season and does a good job keeping the ball in the park and hit on the ground. The Rangers offense is dangerous against righties, but against lefties they have just a .702 OPS/80 wRC+.

Seattle draws a great match-up against Adrian Sampson. This guy is everything we love to pick against. He has a 4.44 ERA/4.85 FIP with low strikeouts and 1.35 HR/9. Seattle is great against righties with a .783 OPS/110 wRC+ on the season. I think they should be able to build a good enough lead that their bullpen won’t mess it up.
