Welcome to the beginning of the NFL 2022 / 2023 season.

It all kicks off tonight with this years Super Bowl favourites, the Buffalo Bills, on the road to last years champions, the LA Rams.

How my schedule will work is I will do a post on a Saturday, covering the early NFL games. Then I will do a post on the Sunday, covering the later NFL games.

Thursdays and Mondays I’ll possibly write something up. Just depends on whether I like something or not. I stick to the meat and potatoes – game spreads and over/unders – and give my thoughts on every game regardless of if I have a play in it or not.

The opening week or two is always an interesting time. The sportsbooks and punters are often still adjusting from the previous year and it can take time. Last year it took them I think until week 5 before they finally caught on that Washingtons defense was piss poor compared to the previous year for example.

Of course with so many unknowns, you just kind of want to get out unscathed without a big deficit to begin the season. Caution can be a good thing.

With that let’s throw it all to the wind and look at the first game of the season.

Buffalo Bills @ LA Rams:

Gotta think this is going to be a gunslinger show based on last years data, and who is behind the ball. Then just all the attention on them. Of course last year both defenses were excellent against the pass primarily in the red zone – but not so much against the run.

Bills are 2.5 favourites. Think we’ll see them pass it up the field then when they get close, rely on Singletary to get the TDs.

Diggs will likely be stuck against Ramsey often in this game which will make things trickier. I’m excited to see how McKenzie does if he starts in the slot as suggested.

I’m also really curious about A-Rob. Heard a lot of good coming into the season.

Bills missing Tredavious White which isn’t great. Looking at the Bills when he was out last year there was certainly some regression in their defensive metrics. I’m also a bit worried about the offensive line.

Then we also have the concern that Dorsey is now in the OC role with Daboll gone. That is a wee bit of a question mark.

I’ll be honest – I went into this one ready to back the Bills. The more I look at it, I am leaning more towards the Rams. Just quite a few question marks on Buffalo at the moment. Staffords elbow is apparently fine.

I’m going to go with Over 52 Points in this game. Both teams are going to be battling till the end with a point to prove. Both have QBs who can make the plays up on the field as they go. I’m also concerned about some of the Rams defensive departures. I feel like both should be able to get into the red zone often enough that we can see the points rack up.
