A good start to the first day of free tips for the PDC Players Championship. We went 3-3 but we made a profit of +1.85 which puts a present or two extra under the Christmas tree!

Day two looms large and with the action on ITV4, you can’t afford to miss a dart. Some exciting matches ahead, so let’s get down to business.

The markets at Betfair’s are always great during the big darts tournaments. Betfair is traditionally the best value around and the ability to trade your position during a match is great. And add in the free bet promotions, you’re onto a winner.

Dave Chisnall versus Alan Tabern.

Big tournament for Dave Chisnall here, after the relative disappointment of the Grand Slam of Darts, where he was poised to make a decent run until his doubling let him down. Alan Tabern’s been missing off our screens for a little bit now and with good reason – his form has just been poor compared to his form of old.

Chisnall looks a good thing here, but his price is to short over this format. However, Paddy Power have the highest checkout line at 103.5, which is a nice line for two men who like a big checkout. While Chisnall has a bit of double trouble, he tends to put his combination finishes well.

Highest checkout over 103.5: 5/6 @ Paddy Power.

Colin Osborne versus Kevin Painter:

A match between two men who “could have been”. I don’t think this will be a classic, but the bookies seem to have priced this up very strangely. Painter is the favourite here, but I can’t see why – his form, especially the rare times he’s been on TV has been shocking. Osborne, while not playing fantastically well, is playing decent enough darts to punish a player like Painter and I can see him doing it in the style of Wayne Jones last night.

I’ll keep it short – I think Osborne is a great thing at the prices.

Colin Osborne to beat Kevin Painter: 10/11 @ Betfair.

Vincent van der Voort versus Co Stompe:

Co Stompe won the last battle between the pair at the Grand Slam of Darts and I can see this happening again. Stompe was unlucky not to get further at the GSOD, but he’s in good form at the moment and Van der Voort is just too incosistent to be confident against the always solid Stompe.

It’s going to be a great match, for sure, but Stompe would be my favourite here and his price means we have to have a dabble.

Co Stompe to beat Vincent van der Voort: 11/10 @ 888.com.

Mervyn King versus Colin Lloyd:

Another match between two men whose form has hit the skids over the past 18 months or so. King’s fall from the top has been unbelievably swift and it’s hard to see him get back into the game. That being said, Lloyd has been just as bad, so for me this match is a coin flip. So, to see Lloyd at such a big price is interesting, especially due to the short format of the match.

Whichever man can get a bit of a rhythm going should win this and I think if Lloyd can just hit his doubles, we could be quids in.

Colin Lloyd to beat Mervyn King: 11/8 @ Paddy Power.

Justin Pipe versus John Henderson:

Number one seed Justin Pipe starts his tilt at his first televised title against PDC rookie John Henderson. This has the potential to be quite an exciting match, with Pipe’s confidence on the stage pushing him to close matches against the big guns, while he’s just raking the cash in from the floor tournaments.

Henderson is a decent player on his day and he’ll fancy his chances here, but I can’t see past Pipe, just thanks to his success over this short format on the floor. But the price is just a bit too prohibitive. Instead of having a bet, just enjoy watching to under-rated darts stars donig what they do best.

Recommend: No bet.

Phil Taylor versus Terry Jenkins:

Nothing but a Power win here. He’s averaging over 100 with relative ease and he took down the Grand Slam of Darts without any trouble, so Terry Jenkins won’t be too much of a problem at all.

Recommend: No bet.

Mark Webster versus Steve Beaton:

Both men have been playing consistent darts as of late, with Webster in the slightly better form. Beaton was unlucky at the Grand Slam of Darts, while Webster kept up his televised consistency.

But due to the short format, I like the price of Beaton. Beaton is just so solid that he can’t be counted out against another player that is simply consistent, not flashy at all.

Steve Beaton to beat Mark Webster: 11/8 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Gary Anderson versus Michael van Gerwen:

Michael van Gerwen had a great Grand Slam of Darts by his standards, but Anderson was better. While the Scotsman had a slow start to the tournament, he still made the final. Van Gerwen started off flying, then petered off towards his exit. But the long and short of it is that Anderson is a player in form, the short format doesn’t bother him as he’s had so much success on the floor tournaments. So, while it would be nice to see a Dutch win, I don’t think it’s going to happen and Anderson is set for a good run.

Recommend: No bet.
