PDC UK Open 2013 Day Two Premium Picks.
So we’re back into the thick of things on the PDC tour, and it was an exciting night of darts, which is a nice change for 2013. We had some shocks, with Justin Pipe, Dean Winstanley, Vincent van der Voort and Colin Osborne all continuing their poor run of form for the year. The rest of the big names got through, along with 4 Speedy Service qualifiers, and a host of other names you may or may not be familiar with, which is the great thing with the UK Open. Phil Taylor got through comfortably, and James Wade wasn’t too troubled by Robbie Green in the preliminary round, and coasted through his other two matches. My three picks for the tournament, Bunting, Klaasen and King are still in with a shout (because King hasn’t played!), so I’m looking for a good night tonight.
And tonight we have some marquee matches, not least the main event of Michael van Gerwen and Mervyn King. It would be good enough for a final, and this time we get it in the third round. Magic of the UK Open? Luck of the draw, more like. We’ve also got a rematch of the Premier League (sigh) with Simon Whitlock facing “relegated” Wes Newton. Maybe that nickname will stick. There’a whole host of other matches to get you salivating, with the main stage being a who’s who of darts, with Mark Webster, Richie Burnett, Ted Hankey, John Part, Ronny Huybrechts and someone called Phil Taylor the men that will be on your TV screen tonight.
The Premium Picks went 8-7 last night, taking us to a profit of +3.53 units after one day of competition. Not a bad start, but Nigel Heydon caused us just a bit too much grief. But not to worry, there’s more action tonight and probably a close result going in our favour, too.
