Well, a 50% strike rate last week, but a nice touch landed with Barney beating Mervyn King. I was at the darts in Newcastle last week and aside from the wonderful walk-on girls, the highlight was the crowd basically baying for blood against King. It seriously affected his game and since we had a nice bet on Barney, I was hapy to see that happening. As soon as King started taunting the crowd, I knew our bet was good.
The matches last week were exceptional – they had everything from amazing finishing from Wade and Whitlock, to drama in the Barney/King match and we had a good fight from Jenkins against Taylor and then we also had a close finish in the Adrian Lewis and Ronnie Baxter match. We’re into the last week of regular fixtures, which is a shame, but we’re still got Finals Night to come after this, then we get back to televised tournaments.

Terry Jenkins Vs James Wade:
So, James Wade played well last week, but met a formiddable opponent in Simon Whitlock. Terry Jenkins didn’t play too badl,y either, but he was up against one Phil Taylor, so expectations weren’t too high. He managed to hold on to the coattails of Taylor for a considerable amount of time, before eventaully losing 8-5.
Wade averaged 98.07 and took out 127 in his 8-4 defeat at the hands of the Aussie, Jenkins averaged 88.91, with a ghihest checkout of 58. The stats say a Wade win here, but the odds really don’t appeal. Jenkins has nothing but pride to play for, while Wade has a play-off place in his sights. Wade also got his first floor tournament win of the year over the weekend, so he really shouldn’t be losing. But we can’t back him, not at aroud 4/9 – it’s terrible value.
The rest of the markets are priced accordingly, with 8/13 the best price for Wade being highest checkout, which might seem like a winner, but still not true value, considering Jenkins can batter in big outs when he feels like it. This is one to leave well alone.

Ronnie Baxter Vs Raymond van Barnveld:
Is Barney back? Well, I certainly hope so. He’s off the bottom of the table, after putting in a great performance against Mervyn King. Barney averaged 97.43, but didn’t hit an out over 100. Ronnie Baxter will have felt unlucky to lose against Adrian Lewis, but he had his chances to win the match and he blew them. Simple as that. He averaged 88.84, which isn’t good enough to beat most of the players in the league.
Barney says he’ll be going all out this week, especially if it will help his good friend Mervyn King. Baxter has it all to play for, but like I said last week, I think he peaked too early. Barney will be too good and I think we’ll see some great darts.

Simon Whitlock vs Mervyn King:
Potentially the match of the night. Simon Whitlock has the PDC crowds right behind him and I’ve not heard a reaction for a foreign player like the one Whitlock received in Newcastle last week, unless it’s for Barney. The crowd will be baying for Mervyn King’s blood, but he’ll thrive on it. I can see this match being a see-saw encounter, with some great scores and very high checkouts.
I think it’s priced about right, with Whitlock just a marginal favourite. I don’t think there’s a cigarette paper between them and we won’t be having a bet on the outright match winner. But, like I say, there will be some big checkouts. King averaged only 87.27 last week, but he took out a 130 and hit back-to-back bullseye finishes. When he’s on his game, he can take them out for fun. Whitlock averaged 97.84, which was helped along by three 100+ checkouts, with a best of 124. both men will be trying hard to ensure a play-off place.

Phil Taylor vs Adrian Lewis:
I will keep this short and sweet. Going by their performances last week, Taylor should win this at a canter. Lewis is still struggling to finish, while Taylor is just being Mr Consistent. However, we won’t know if Lewis is still in with a chance to qualify for the play-offs until the start of the match, as he does have a very slim chance, if results go his way. It could end up being both men have nothing to really play for other than pride, or Lewis might have to win 8-2 to progress, or something similar and I don’t want to be on a match that could be decided before an arrow is thrown.
Recommend: No bet.
