The MLB season is winding down and for the most part teams are just playing out the string. The Milwaukee Brewers are the only team really chasing a playoff spot at this point as they sit just 1.5 games back of the Colorado Rockies. Neither team is really seizing the moment though as Colorado is 4-6 over it’s past ten while the Brewers are 5-5.

Milwaukee is entering a very favorable series against the Reds today before finishing up this weekend against the Cardinals. St. Louis is 2.5 games back so not quite dead yet either. While Colorado continues to host Miami, they will finish the season with three against the Dodgers who will be in full on rest for the playoffs mode. These are the games you need to watch if you want any sort of drama down the stretch.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Brewers are a huge favorite tonight at -200, but with the pitching match-up tonight I feel pretty damn confident in them. The Brewers will send Zach Davies to the mound who has been excellent this season while the Reds will send someone named Deck McGuire. A 28-year old former top prospect has never really found success above Double-A in the minors. He did have a great year in Double-A Pensacola this year, but as a 28-year old he really should’ve. I think the Brewers will hit him and hit him hard today. I rarely bet spreads in baseball, but am making an exception here tonight. Milwaukee -1.5 (-101) is a great play.

Is there anyone hotter than the Cubs right now? 8-2 over their past ten, they have dominated the Brewers and Cardinals to seize the NL Central. They probably won’t catch the Nationals for the second best record (and first round home-field advantage), but they are a scary team to play right now and the other NL teams should be worried. The Cubs send Jake Arrieta to the mound who is rounding into form for the playoffs against Carlos Martinez tonight. Martinez has had a great season, but he got hit hard by the Cubs earlier this month and has a good chance to get hard by them again tonight. Cubs +101.

Colorado plays a game at home tonight and Coors Field is always good for big runs, with the total here set at 11 runs. The air is still thin out there, but it’s also very cold. It should be in the mid-50s tonight and that could suppress the bats a bit. It somewhat did last night and that’s all we’re really hoping for. Under 11 runs shouldn’t be that hard to do.

It wasn’t that long ago that James Paxton was one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. An injury ruined his (and the Mariners) season, but this is his third start back from rehab and he is rounding into form. He faces the Oakland A’s and Daniel Mengden tonight in what could be an underrated pitcher’s duel. Mengden has started thrown his curve more often which has led to him being 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA over his past three starts. Could just be noise, but I like the under 9 runs a lot here tonight.
