Yesterday was a crazy one in MLB for a couple of elite pitchers. In a day game we saw the Nationals Max Scherzer enter the 8th inning with a no-hitter. Then everything went wrong for him. First, a weak hit by AJ Ellis bounced off his glove and the slow back-up catcher broke up the no-hitter. He got the next out, but then saw a weak throw from Trea Turner and a bad scoop by Adam Lind allow another baserunner. He hit the next batter and then threw a wild pitch that tied the game. A Giancarlo Stanton single later and the Nationals lost the game.

Later that night, Justin Verlander was working a perfect game into the sixth inning. With one out in the top of the sixth, Jarod Dyson bunted for a single. Some would say this “broke an unwritten rule”, but that would imply that Dyson doesn’t constantly bunt for singles. You know what you are getting with him. He then walked Zunino, allowed a few flurry of hits and all of the sudden it was a 4-3 game. Then it was a 7-5 game and the Mariners won.

Baseball can flip on a dime at any moment which makes it the best and worst sport to bet on. Let’s find some of that good stuff today.

The Cleveland and Baltimore series continues and every game in this series has seen big runs scored. 39 runs in three games and it could continue again tonight with Wade Miley and Mike Clevinger on the mound. I love to pick on Miley and I will be doing so tonight with the Indians -116. I like the Cleveland bullpen better, I like the offense better and I have zero respect for Miley’s ability to not give up runs. Simple.

A pitcher that I no longer trust is Jake Arrieta of the Cubs. He’s failed to make it out of the fifth inning in his last two starts and his numbers are not impressive whatsoever. He’s been worse on the road and I think the Marlins offense could be trouble with him. Yelich, Ozuna and Stanton are trouble for any pitcher and Arrieta is any old pitcher right now. The good news for the Cubs is they get lefty Jeff Locke and they are much better against lefties. I think we have to go with the over 9 runs here as both pitchers could get smacked around.

Another game I like the over on is the Braves versus Giants. The new Atlanta ballpark has been good for homeruns early this season and it should be humid down there tonight. Jamie Garcia and Matt Cain are hittable and this just feels like an over 9 runs game. The homer era is alive.

Seattle has won four straight and goes for the sweep of the Tigers tonight. They are calling up one of their top prospects in Andrew Moore to start tonight. While I am usually a fan of picking on rookie pitchers, I like him a lot tonight. For one, the Tigers are sending Daniel Norris to the mound and he’ll have a hard time against Nelson Cruz and company. Norris’s ERA is one thing, but the Tigers bullpen has a 6.84 ERA on the road. So, yeah, Mariners -119.
