Week 2 of the English Premiership, and we finally got our first real shock of the season. No, the Manchester big guns kept on winning, and Chelsea have managed to get two wins in a row in the league for what seems like the first time in an eternity. No, Liverpool lost 2-0 to Burnley, which was just crazy considering just how much possession Liverpool had during the game. Needless to say, it was a real coupon buster, and the bookies had a field day with it. We’re into the third week of the EPL season, and while money and new signings help, the first two weeks of the season might just be proof that managers make the biggest different of all. Manchester City and Manchester United are unrecognisible, and Chelsea are actually winning, even if it isn’t pretty. Sure, the signings help, but I think what Pep, Jose and Conte have done already shows how important a manager with vision is. Still, time will tell, and all three men will have some big matches to come, and that’ll be when the real tests start.

Now, how did Mark Lawrenson get on last week? Well, followers of Lawro will know that we’re not expecting miracles from the Liverpool legend. In fact, he still only managed to get on correct score, and confidently predicted wins for both Manchester sides, Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham, as well as the Leicester/Arsenal draw. He’s still struggling to work out the teams in the bottom half of the league, though, and he’ll need to do that if he has any hope of making a profit this season. Anyway, with most of his predictions coming in at very short odds, Lawro still made a loss last week of -0.2 units, which takes him to a loss of -5.8 units. Yes, Lawro fans, he’s already losing, and we’re only two weeks into the season. Buckle up, because it’s going to be a bump ride for the next 30-odd weeks.

And remember the Bore Draw promotion at the great sportsbook Bet365. So, what have we learned this week? Well, Lawro is keeping the faith with the big teams, and he’s still trying to figure out who’s going to be the surprise package from the supposed weaker sides. Lawro doesn’t seem to be liking Middlesbrough, and while it’s understandable, I just hope he doesn’t get caught in the trap of constantly predicting a loss for them just like he did Leicester last season. Not that Middlesbrough will win the league, but they’re good enough to pick up some wins here and there, and Lawro needs to realise that instead of thinking the new boys are going to get whipped every week!
