It was a welcome return, sort of, for the English Premiership last week, and we kicked things off after the international break with a comfortable 3-0 win for Chelsea away to Leicester. Then things started to get interesting in the 3pm kick-offs, with Arsenal’s ten men struggling to put away Swansea, Bournemouth somehow netting 6 goals in one game, and Manchester City missing two penalties in their 1-1 draw with Everton. Ben Foster’s performance also deserves a mention as he kept wave after wave of Spur attack out. Sunday’s action was forgettable, but what was even worse was the Liverpool vs Manchester United game. I mean, we all knew what Jose Mourinho was going to do, and he got his side to park the bus well, but come on, give the fans something to cheer for. It’s a sad day when Monday Night Football is the new Super Sunday in terms of awful football.

Now, although the football was terrible at Anfield, it wasn’t a bad week for Mark Lawrenson. The Liverpool legend and BBC pundit managed six correct results and one correct score, so not a bad week for him at all. Lawro predicted wins for Chelsea, Arsenal, Bournemuoth, Stoke and southampton, as well as the draw between Manchester City and Everton. But what did that give Lawro and his prediction backers in the way of a profit? Well, Lawro ended last week’s fixtures with a profit of +2.36 units and Lawro’s loss has now gone down to a still woeful -18.75 units. So, even though it was a winning week, it was nowhere good enough to get Lawro back on track after eight weeks of the EPL season.

Is there anything that really stands out there for me in Lawro’s predictions? Not really. I mean, maybe not predicting a Spurs win is a bit of a shock, but not a huge one. What does interest me is Leicester’s huge price, considering how in-form they are at home, although they are terrible away. Odds-against looks huge. No shocks in the prediction of a 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Manchester United either. Although judging by the way Mourinho set up against Liverpool, maybe the 0-0 should be the prediction. But whatever, there’s no shocks yet again from Mark Lawrenson, it’s all nice and steady and predictable.
