All the headlines after the New Year’s fixtures are about Olivier Giroud’s unbelievable finish against Crystal Palace last night. I was sitting with my dad and he just said, “Fluke.” Needless to say, he was not as impressed as I was by it. Let us know what you think of his finish, but I’m of the opinion it was a classic, so who’s right? The other main headline to come out of those fixtures is the fact that Pep’s Manchester City are losing ground on the league leaders Chelsea and Liverpool, under Jurgen Klopp, are seriously contenders yet again. It makes you think that if Liverpool hadn’t dropped some silly points against weaker opposition, they would be right up there and pushing the Blues all the way. Tottenham continue to fire into life every now and then, and if they find the consistency yet again, they should consolidate a Champions League place. Things are heating up as we head into the first batch of English Premiership fixtures of 2017. And to celebrate this round of fixtures, we have Lawro’s second ever Midweek Madness, which I know you can’t wait to see.

Now, Lawro had an amazing Boxing Day, with a profit of 12.31 units, and it’s safe to say that we’re not expecting that every week. In fact, most weeks I’m happy if we lose single figures. So how did Lawro get on with the New Year’s fixtures? I mean, surely he can’t have done better than Boxing Day. Well, he did cop a couple of correct scores, and one of them was West Brom’s 2-1 over Southampton, which paid a huge 18/1! That helped Lawro get into profit to the tune of +20.80 units, which is, of course, his best round of the season by a long way. And what does that mean for the season as a whole? Mark Lawrenson, prediction specialist, is now laughing all the way to the bank with a profit of +27.10 units, which means that if you wagered £10 on his predictions this season, you’d have made a profit of £270.10!

The one prediction that our tipping legend Mark Lawrenson has made that sticks out is that he thinks Chelsea’s winning run is going to come to an end against Tottenham in the London derby. Is he right? Let us know what you think in the comments. Personally, I think we’re going to see goals, but I can’t predict a winner, so I think a draw might be the best bet here. 2-2? 3-3? Hell, knowing my luck, that means a 0-0 special. Lawro is predicting wins for the rest of the big guns, but I’m a bit surprised he’s predicting an away win for Leicester. I wouldn’t back them with counterfeit away from home, even if it is Middlesbrough they’re playing!
