Croatia take on Spain in both teams’ final matches in Group D. The game will be played at the same time as the Czech Republic versus Turkey match on June 21st. Croatia take on Spain at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

Croatia start off strong in their first game in Group D, outclassing Turkey and winning far more comfortably than the 1-0 scoreline suggests. However, things went a bit pear-shaped in the second game, where they blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with the Czech Republic. However, it’s safe to say that the crowd disruption towards the end of the game really cost them, and put their defence off their stride, so I wouldn’t read too much into that. Croatia dominated for long parts of the game, they looked a class above and really should have won easily. Croatia are assured of a top three finish in the group, and should, in theory, have done enough to get into the next round, assuming Spain don’t thump them.

Spain started off slowly, struggling to break down a dogged Czech Republic defence to win 1-0 with a late goal. However, things changed against Turkey, in a game which they won 3-0. It was an assured Spanish performance, with Morata getting a double. That being said, Turkey’s defence was all over the place, and were no challenge for Spain. They struggled to break down a more organised Czech defence, so the Turkey game is not one to read too much into, I think. Spain are guaranteed a spot in the next round.

Spain and Croatia have faced each other 5 times, with their first game coming in a friendly in 1994, which Croatia won. However, that would be the only game Croatia would win. Spain have won 3 of their meetings, while there has been 1 draw. Their last meeting came at Euro 2012, which Spain won 1-0.

Croatia vs Spain Match Betting Tips:

Graeme and I were talking during the Croatia vs Czech Republic match about how great the Croats looked, the midfield was just unbelievable, and as well as skill, they had a real physical presence. However, they switched off and allowed the Czechs back into it. Sure, there were mitigating circumstances, but they need to be switched on at all times, and if they switch off against Spain, they’re in trouble.

Look, a draw suits both sides here. Croatia will wrap up second with a draw, Spain will consolidate first place with a draw, and neither side will want to pick up any injuries or bookings. Yes, Croatia might want an easier tie by winning Group D, but there’s too much risk involved. Croatia and Spain to draw is the selection for the match. It’s not great in terms of odds, but it’s the only outcome I can see, as it suits both sides down to the ground.

Croatia vs Spain Prop Bets:

Backing under 2.5 goals here is the obvious play here, but it’s incredibly short. Instead, go for Draw H/T – Draw F/T for a bit more value. If you fancy a correct score bet, 0-0 is worth a punt, as both sides look to play out a bore-draw and shut up shop.
