A 2-0 record last night.

What a fun game that turned out to be between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers ended up winning this one 13-10 as the Cubs continue to bleed runs. Ryan Braun had a big day with four RBIs. This one actually looks closer than it was as the Cubs managed five runs over the last two innings.

I am not one for drawing early conclusions, but based on the pitching I’ve seen and the history of teams that start the season at 1-6 – it is not looking good for the Cubbies. If only they had any money to spend this offseason to improve this obvious weakness.

Our other pick was the Rays over the Giants and this one was easy money. The Rays scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back from there. Tyler Glasnow looked great in six shutout innings with six strikeouts. This isn’t the last you’ll be hearing of the Rays this weekend.

Quick programming note: Depending on when tomorrow’s lines are posted I am most likely not going to do tips for tomorrow. If I can get them done some time tonight I will, but I have friends in town and we have a big day tomorrow where there is just not a lot of time for baseball analysis in the schedule.

Two games for today though. It’s the weekend so that means day games. The first one starts at 2:10 Eastern Time so make sure you get your bets in early.

Chicago White Sox vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Tips:

Lucas Giolito had a fine start in his first game of the year against the Royals, but I am not over last year’s nightmare just yet. He had a 6.13 ERA/5.56 FIP on the season. That first start was against the Royals while this one is against the scorching hot Mariners offense, I don’t love his chances here.

The Mariners send Mike Leake who is definitely a pitcher that I don’t get. He doesn’t have great peripheral numbers, but he always seems to get the job done. He had a 4.36 ERA/4.14 FIP and is a servicable pitcher.

I’m not looking for Leake to dominate though. I’m looking for the Mariners to hit Giolioto and I think that is exactly what will happen.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. San Francisco Giants Betting Tips:

I have to go back to the well here. I love the Rays and Jeff Samrdzjia is not a great pitcher. He had a horrible year last year with a 6.25 ERA/5.44 FIP and over 5 walks per nine innings. His best years are clearly behind him and I think the Rays will do well.

The Rays send Ryne Stanek as the opener so this will be a bullpen game for the Rays. It’s early, but the Rays relievers have a 1.16 ERA/2.51 FIP thus far. Yeah, I think they’ll do just fine here against this bad offense.
