An exciting night of baseball last night was highlighted by two solid pitching performances. The first was a return to form for Chris Sale of the White Sox as he beat Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels. Sale had given up seven earned runs in each of his past two starts and had a nice bounce back last night. It’s good to see that Sale is back to pitching like the AL Cy Young award contender he looked like before those two disastrous starts.

The other big performance was Johnny Cueto of the Royals going eight innings of shutout baseball against the Detroit Tigers. He was pretty masterful in his performance last night and if he continues to look like that it’ll be hard for anyone to beat the Royals in a playoff series. Of course, we still have a long way to go until we get to that point.

Today we have a full slate of baseball games to get to including a huge series between the Cardinals and Pirates kicking off tonight. The Cardinals have a pretty big division lead right now, but the Pirates aren’t really showing signs of slowing down either. It should be a great one. There is also a big series going down between the Astros and Giants that both teams need to win.

MLB Betting Tips:

The big series kicking off tonight is the aforementioned Cardinals and Pirates series. This should be a playoff level atmosphere tonight and it should be a great game. The pitchers tonight are Carlos Martinez for St. Louis and Jeff Locke for the Pirates. Locke has really struggled lately with a 6.32 ERA in his past three starts and he hasn’t made it out of the fifth in any of those games. Carlos Martinez shutout the Pirates in his last start against them, but in the start before that earlier this year he gave up 7 runs to them. The way things have been going for these two lately combined with the high level of competition have us taking over 7 runs in this one.

Scott Kazmir makes another start for the Astros tonight against Madison Bumgarner of the Giants. This is the marquee pitching match-up of the night and it should be an exciting one to watch. Kazmir has been especially unhittable as of late and we like the Astros chances tonight. This one will be low scoring, but I like the way the Astros offense has looked lately and they should be able to get to Bumgarner just a little bit. Bet Astros +134.

Over his past four starts Chris Tillman has been one of the very best pitchers in all of baseball. Posting a 0.91 ERA and 0.67 WHIP over that span, he has done a lot to erase his horrible start to the season. Tonight he goes against the Mariners in the very pitcher friendly Safeco Field and should continue his strong run. Seattle will send Tajuan Walker to the mound who has been feast or famine all season long. Tillman looks like a solid play tonight and the Orioles +121 is a nice play.
