A big day in baseball yesterday highlighted by the Mets hitting a franchise record eight homeruns in a huge 16-7 win over the Phillies. This was despite starter Jacob deGrom last just 2 2/3 innings and giving up seven runs in a rare bad start from the young ace. They now own a 5.5 game lead in the National League East and it is looking more and more like the Nationals won’t be able to catch them. The Mets have the added benefit of having one of the easiest schedules in baseball over the rest of the season. Also in New York, the Yankees grabbed an extra inning win to move into a first place tie with the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East. Unlike the NL East, that race should come down to the final game of the season.

We have a full slate of MLB games today with some great match-ups. Let’s get into our tips for Tuesday.

MLB Betting Tips:

The Astros and Yankees continue their series today and it’s a possible playoff preview. Today is a big match-up for both teams after last night’s extra innings 1-0 game. The Astros send lefty Dallas Keuchel to the mound and I really like his chances against the lefty heavy Yankees lineup. For the season lefties are hitting just .134 against Keuchel and he has only allowed one homer to left handed batters all year. This is a nice match-up for him with so many of the Yankees big bats batting from the left side. He goes against Ivan Nova who has been solid this season, but is no Dallas Keuchel. The Astros offense should do better than they did yesterday and grab the win behind a strong Keuchel outing. Astros -121 is the play.

Am I really supposed to go against the Mets offense at this point? They go against the Phillies again today and the Phillies are bringing Jerome Williams to the mound who has been one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball. His 6.10 ERA and 1.67 WHIP are bad news for the Phillies and great news for the red hot Mets offense. He’s going against Noah Syndergaard which makes the Mets a huge favorite, but I think the Mets could hit this over all by themselves the way things have been going. The Mets are the kings of baseball right now and Mets/Phillies over 8 seems like the safest bet out there.

The Mariners and Athletics are far out of contention, but they showed last night that they can still score some runs in big bunches. They should do more of the same tonight with two non-elite pitchers on the mound. Mike Montgomery of the Mariners has had huge struggles this season lowlighted by a 10.95 ERA over his past three starts. Jesse Chavez of Oakland has been a completely different pitcher on the road this season, posting a 5.08 ERA away from the Bay area. This one will feature some fireworks and Mariners/As over 7.5 is a strong play.

The Cardinals are the best team in all of baseball going against a .500-ish team with Robbie Ray on the mound. Robbie Ray is decent, but his 4.45 home ERA is really not match for Jamie Garcia who holds a 1.32 ERA and 1.75 ERA overall. He is the Cardinals ace and he will do the job tonight against Arizona. Cardinals -115 should probably be higher.
