A decent day for our BDO World Championship tipping. We are now 5-4 and we have a profit of +6.67 units, so we’re flying already.

For some reason only known to myself, I posted a tip for the Alan Norris match, which is actually played today. We’ll still be going with that and we have two more potential crackers to finish off the second rond of the BDO World Championships.

Alan Norris vs Garry Thompson.

Garry Thompson was a 3-1 winner against debutant Arno Merk in the first round and, to be honest, I think that scoreline flattered him somewhat. He didn’t play all that well and he was lucky his opponent lacked any real experience. His second round opponent, Alan Norris, had a huge win over the in-form Ross Montgomery. Norris averaged better than his opponent and showed a lot of nerve to take out Montgomery, while Thompson just didn’t impress even when not pressured bhy his young German opponent. The bookies make this close, but I think Norris might take this relatively easily if he can reproduce his first round form.

Scott Waites vs Stephen Bunting.

I personally believe Scott Waites hasn’t been done any favours when it comes to the draw. While some believe Martin Adams was handed almost a bye to the title last year, Waites is going to have to go through some quality players to even make the quarter-finals.

Stephen Bunting looked impressive in dismantling Brian Woods 3-0, having a cracking average in the process. So this match could be closer than the bookies would have you believe. Bunting is definitely no 11/4 shot, even thoguh Waites looked just as impressive in putting away Ted Hankey.

As it stands, I still can’t look past Waites, but I think it’s going to be a long match and since both players are capable of some quality finishing, the highest checkout line of 120.5 is generous and we’ll have a bit of a dabble on that.

Robbie Green vs Dean Winstanley.

And to finish off the second round of the BDO World Championships, we’ve got what could be the tightest match of the round. Robbie Green is a player in hot form, after impressing in Holland and then demolishing Andy Boulton 3-0. On the other hand, Dean Winstanley, while being another form player in the BDO, struggled past Martin Atkins 3-2 after taking the match almost all the way to a sudden death leg.

However, Winstanley doubled well and scored well at times, too. Atkins played out of his skin, so Winstanley can be fogriven for scraping through. I think now that Winstanley has got comfortable on the stage, he’ll be a bit more confident in front of the cameras and this match could go all the way again.

The bookies can’t split them, but there might just be some value in Winstanley as the slight outsider, now that he’s comfortable on the stage and the fact his doubling was impressive most of the time.

And that’s the end of the tips for the second round of the BDO World Championships. I’ll be back tomorrow with the first of the quarter-final match-ups and we’ll hopefully continue this trend of winners! Enjoy the darts and happy betting!
