OK, I’m writing this just as the afternoon session of the Grand Slam of Darts starts, so I can’t give you an update on what the scores are. Thanks to the format of the day, there’s little turnaround between sessions and when I wrote today’s afternoon session tips, the bookies hadn’t priced up the evening session matches. Typical bookies, eh?
Anyway, 17-16 from last night, with a profit of +4.405 units. Hopefully this will have improved after this afternoon’s two matches. Now, onto the Grand Slam of Darts Evening Session tips.

Scott Waites Vs Co Stompe:
Is this the proverbial coin-flip match? Waites was 4-1 up over Stompe in their group match, then won 5-4. Waites also struggled in patches against Raymond van Barneveld, while Co Stompe saw of Colin Lloyd 10-4 with an average of 101, which is 10 points greater than Waites managed. Waites’s main problem was his doubling, which was so good in his group matches. Stompe didn’t seem to have that problem and I just think that maybe over the longer format, the calm head of Stompe might just prevail, as he did manage an average of 101 over 14 legs, which is pretty damn good.

Phil Taylor vs Steve Beaton:
Phil Taylor was back to his old self with a 10-1 route of Ronnie Baxter last night. Steve Beaton disappointed the fans somewhat by eliminating the most hated man in Wolverhampton, Ted Hankey in impressive fashion, averaging over 101 on his way to a 10-6 win. The former BDO World Champion, Beaton, looks to be back to some kind of form, but he’s playing a man in Taylor who loves the longer format, loves the Wolverhampton Civic Hall and loves winning. Taylor is 1/19 to win the match and I can’t say I blame the bookies for taking this position. If he had scraped through against Baxter and had refused to take of his specs, we’d have had a bigger price. As it stands, he’s back, he’s hungry for this and he should win. Even the handicap lines are absurd, ranging from 7.5 to 9.5 and in a race to 16, which says something. However, there is one bet that appeals to me and it’s the number of 180s in the match. I don’t think there will be too many, as the match could be over relatively quickly. Most of the lines are around 10.5, but I’ve found one at 11.5, which I like the look of.
