The PGA Tour is finally back in action, and we kick off 2015 with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

This prestigious event takes place at the Kapalua Resort on the Plantation Course. It has been known as the Hyundai Tournament of Championss since 2011. Prior names for the opening event include the SBS Championship and the Mercedes Championship.

4 Americans have won this tournament in a row. In order from 2011 onwards it was Jonathan Byrd, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson and Zach Johnson – the latter of whom comes in as joint 4th favourite alongside Hideki Matsuyama.

Interesting odds for Matsuyama, and obviously a lot of hype surrounds the youngster. To his credit he has cashed every event thus far but only has two top 10 finishes and finished at a +3 at the WGC-HSBS Championship.

Let’s see the full betting odds for the top 10 golfers:

Hyundai Tournament of Champions 2015 Winner #1: Ryan Moore

After a break in golf, you generally want to look at golfers who are consistent and able to put up the numbers and one of them is Ryan Moore.

Moore hasn’t played much this season so far – he’s had 3 tournaments. the Shriners where he was cut, the WGC-HSBC Championship where he came 28th and then the CIMB Classic where he brought it in a big way, and came in 1st. The 32 year old is always solid, and usually good enough to bank on for a top finish – especially at the nice price of 20/1.

Moore has a history on this course, coming in 10th last year. He was 6 off but showed he has what it takes with a 67 on day 1. Much better than the previous year where he was tied for 28th.

Bet: Ryan Moore E/W 20/1 at .

Top Asian Winner:

It’s a low price of 4/6 but with only 3 Asian golfers, it’s hard to see by Hideki Matsuyama.

The other two golfers are Seung Yul Noh and Sang Moon Bae, who are both 3/1 to be the Top Asian. For reference sake, Noh is 40/1 to win the tournament and Bae is 45/1.

Matsuyama is in a class of his own against these two, and we’d expect even worse odds. 4/6 is value and we’d recommend betting that. Multiple units – it depends how much you bet. We generally bet $25/$50/$100 per bet although sometimes more. We’ll be putting $500 on this one.

Bet: The Top Asian Golfer at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to be Hideki Matsuyama. You can place this special bet at and we recommend a MULTIPLE unit bet.

HYUNDAI TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS RESULTS & ANALYSIS:

Well we got a nice winner with Hideki, as shown below:

Although it was a bit bloody nerve-wracking. Matsuyama shot a 70 on the first day, while Bae was under 70 the first 3 rounds. Thankfully Matsuyama hit two 66’s in a row and even though he came in with a 70 on the final day – Bae did as well. That was a thrilling end to it.

Our only other bet was Ryan Moore. He just couldn’t get going – I mean he shot well and had a -11 overall, so you can’t fault him for that. The problem was everyone else had an epic day while he didn’t. But it says something about his ability that even though he had an off tournament, he still came tied for 20th.
