Welcome to the Sports Betting Tips for January 8th, 2015.

The Golf is back and that’s the big one for us. We are so hyped to have both the European and PGA Tours underway. We won’t see the LPGA back until the end of January, and the Champions Tour returns in a week we believe.

But let’s get to the betting tips for today:

South African Open 2015 Championship Betting Tips:

The European Tour returns in 2015 in South Africa – one of the only places on the globe where you can actually play some golf at the moment.

Charl Schwartzel goes into this one as the favourite at 7/1 odds. Ernie Els is 3rd favourite as he is clearly hoping to take it down for the 6tim time.

Our first betting tip is Merrick Bremner. This is a big one we’re betting E/W at 66/1 odds. Are we crazy? Possibly. However Bremner won on this course just last year. He won at the BMG Classic in the Sunshine Tour. He owned the course on that day, and if he continues that sort of form then there’s no doubt he can get a top 5 finish. He’s higher valued than his odds suggest – that’s for sure.

We’re also placing an E/W bet on Hennie Otto. Otto is 18/1 and has already won the South African Open once previously. Not only that but on this very course last year, he was 2nd. Otto is one of those golfers who does well coming off a break, and he is well worth the 18/1 price here. It should be noted he also came 2nd in the Sunshine Tour 2 years ago as well, on this very course.

Our final bet is the 20/1 Jbe’ Kruger who we will be backing E/W. Honestly this bet is barely +EV but we’d have him at 18/1 and feel his odds are only slightly higher due to the inflated odds on Ernie Els. Kruger is erratic at the best of times, but he has shot 65s on this course before, and if he can just get the consistency going he could walk this course.

Hyundai Tournament of Champions 2015 Betting Tips:

A lot of eyes will be on this tournament within the PGA Calendar, with Bubba Watson the strong favourite tied with Jason Day. Both golfers are 15/2 odds.

We love Hideki Matsuyama but this course has us scratching our heads. His consistency thus far on the tour has been great but we don’t know if this course is good enough for a top 5 finish, and we think 14/1 on him to win is about the right price. So instead of backing him to win, we will back him as the Top Asian Winner. The odds on that are 4/6 which is a good price considering the only other two Asians are Sang Moon Bae and Seung Yul Noh, and over the course of a tournament neither should be able to hold a candle to Matsuyama.

Our final bet for this tournament is one of our favourite golfers, Ryan Moore. Bet him at 20/1 E/W. He was in the top 10 last year at this course, and is a golfer who with this field, should be more like 14/1.
