It was a 1-1 day on January 5th. We had over 2.5 goals in the Serie A match between Genoa and Sassuolo. That one was a tight one but it came in with an 86th minute goal by Goran Pandev to give Genoa the win.
We lost with Both Teams to Score in the SPAL vs Verona match. SPAL had a man sent off in the first half and that affected things. SPAL did a decent job regardless in that match and were unlucky not to score.
Football started early on Monday and we lost with Bologna to win. They ended up chasing the game as Fiorentina scored in the 27th minute. Bologna were the better team but the keeper played a blinder. Bologna tied it up in injury time but that was not enough for us.
Lot of cup competition going on this week that I generally don’t enjoy tipping. So we’ll look in the Lower Leagues and do some stat based picks:
Doncaster vs Shrewsbury Betting Tips:
A mid-table clash between Doncaster and Shrewsbury. Doncaster are in 15th place with 1 game in hand and a point behind Shrewsbury. Interestingly Doncaster have a +9 goal differntial while Shrewsbury are -2.
Doncaster are fairly inconsistent and had a bad run of games without a win. They ended that with a 3-0 win away to Peterborough out of nowhere, before falling to Sunderland 2-1 at home. They got back on track with a solid 1-0 win over Oxford, who are currently 4th.
Now they host Shrewsbury who after a decent run lost to 2nd place Rotherham then got a 1-1 draw away to Bolton.
What’s notable is Shrewsbury have put in some solid away performances lately and I think they can continue that against an inconsistent Doncaster. Their form has been slightly better over the last little while. Their main issue is just not being able to score at a decent rate but they are doing what matters away.
Doncaster are deserved favourites and I expect the bookies think Shrewsbury won’t be able to score. I do see that as an issue too but think there is enough value on the draw.

Real Zaragoza vs Sporting Gijon Betting Tips:
Zaragoza had a nice run snapped away to Huesca. That ended a great run of form that saw them move all the way up to 5th in the league with a game in hand. However Huesca are a quality team and I can’t blame them there.
They’ve now got this game in hand to push them up as high as 3rd place which will no doubt motivate them. Sporting Gijon are hovering just above the relegation zone. Despite a solid defense, Gijon can’t score and that’s been hurting them.
That was a tough loss for Zaragoza but I think they will resume normal duty and thump Sporting Gijon. They can score the goals while Sporting Gijon are brutal at that. They average just 1 goal every 2 matches away. Zaragoza will be missing Julian Delmas and Alberto Guitian I believe who both got sent off in the Huesca game otherwise I’d bet more units.
This game was originally postponed due to Gijon coming down with a flu virus. They probably will still be feeling the affects.
