Welcome to the golf tips for Wednesday, July 17th.

We will of course be covering The Open.

It takes place at Royal Portrush and will be an interesting one. It’s essentially a “home” tournament for Rory McIlroy who actually holds the course record here.

It would be an amazing story for Rory if he won here. Alas he is someone who is on my unbettable list. I WILL be rooting for him as a happy Rory in the zone is always amazing stuff to see – but he’s just let me down too many times.

I’ve got quite a few bets for The Open. personally and pardon the pun but I feel it is a very open tournament with a lot of potential betting options. It’s going to be an interesting one that’s for sure and I could end up being way off – but hey we’ll give it a go and see how it all works out.

Also if you followed me last week in the John Deere Classic – how did we not get at least a bloody top 5 / each-way cash??? We went into Sunday with a 1st place leader in Cameron Tringale and Vaughn Taylor sitting quite nicely in 5th place. Both of them ended up crapping out and couldn’t even get the top 5. That was absolutely gutting to see but it is what it is. Both were 66/1 to win too so would have been a nice payout even for Top 5.

Right let’s get on with The Open 2019 Betting Tips. As a reminder my max bet is 1u and I do increments. We have just under 2u on my main bets for this tournament.

First up is Jon Rahm to win for 1/4u. Rahm is someone I always find it hard to bet on honestly these days. He isn’t really a finisher and his temparment concerns me. He also isn’t someone with a great open at the British Open. However he’s in form and watching what he did at Lahinch was enough to put me over the top. Plus his 3rd place at the US Open – I just feel this could be his time.

That’s my only “to win” bet. The rest are “to win e/w” bets which if your sportsbook doesn’t offer it would normally be splitting your bets to win and top 5, but for the Majors I am basing it on Bet365 who do Top 8. So you may want to split you bets to win and Top 8 if offered or Top 10 if not.

Next up is a 1/2u on Xander Schauffele. Just a tremendous golfer and his dad is here which I think will help him. Never underrestimate things like that. He seems to be set up specifically for this tournament having not played since Pebble Beach. He’s hoping to peak here.

I’m also on Patrick Cantlay for 1/2u. How can you not? He performs amazingly well in the Majors, is coming in on form, and is someone I’d feel silly not backing.

Next up is 1/4u on Matt Kuchar. What can I say I am a sucker? I go so many Majors refusing to back Kooch then I tap out and back him. This is one of those. I hate money I guess.

1/8 on Bryson De Chambeau. This is the type of course that I think he will love.

Finally 1/4u on Adam Scott. Every single box he pretty much checks for this one. Plus he has been here apparently a week in advice and played the course so a good sign.

I’ve also got 5 long shot bets at high odds. All 1/8u on Webb Simpson, Rory Sabbatini, Jazz Janewattanond, Chez Reavie and Tyrell Hatton.
