A 0-1 record last night.

We had the Nuggets against the Jazz last night and the Jazz just came out firing. We’ve seen far too many of these games this season where the three-point shooting percentage and the win are basically a 1:1 correlation. Last night was an egregious example of this as the Jazz shot 19-for-46 from three while the Nuggets ended at just 8-for-27. Donovan Mitchell made six of those and finished with 33 points.

You just aren’t going to win in today’s NBA with a differential like that. Kudos to the Jazz who seem to be putting things together at the right time of the season.

Typical Friday slate with some ESPN games on in the US. Let’s take a look.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Tips:

Portland is hot right now, winning their last five games. This run has been especially impressive because of the teams they’ve played as they’ve beaten Golden State, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Cleveland and Boston during this run. This is their toughest road trip of the season and they are coming out firing.

Toronto is doing pretty well themselves as they’ve won 8 of the past nine games. This is the last game of a long home stand for them. That can honestly go either way as the players could be gearing up for the trip and tired of being in the same place, but it also usually means rest and sleeping in your own bed. Two things that are hard to quantify in the NBA.

The thing with this game to me though is that this is a pretty close match-up. The Blazers are playing good ball of late and the back court is hard to match up against. Toronto is very good, but I think this one will be pretty close and there is just enough chance of Portland winning outright that I am taking the points.

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Tips:

I can’t for the life of me figure out why this line is Bucks -4. Milwaukee has been off for two days so they are well rested and healthy for this one. Not only that they are so much better in every single way, but most importantly is the three pointers. Let’s take a look at some stats.

Milwaukee Bucks 3-pointers attempted per game: 37.9
Los Angeles Lakers 3-pointers attemped per game: 30.3

Milwaukee Bucks 3-pointers made per game: 13.3
Los Angeles Lakers 3-pointers made per game: 10.2

That’s nine points right there. So where are the Lakers making up the difference? On defense, the Bucks have a far higher Defense Rating. The Bucks are a better rebounding team, have more blocks and more steals; I just don’t get it. The Lakers just aren’t good, sorry. They don’t play defense and I don’t see them having a good answer for the Bucks three-point attack.

The Bucks are the best team in the NBA right now and the Lakers are out of the playoffs. This is a huge mismatch and I am all over this line.
