#10 Loyola Chicago at #7 Ohio State Betting Tips:

This is a match-up where a lot of people are looking for an upset, but I just don’t see it. Loyola Chicago has been a good story in the tournament over the past couple of seasons and I think that is coloring people’s perception of these teams.

Ohio State has the better Offensive Efficiency, the better Defensive Efficiency, and a stronger strength of schedule this season. This line is way too low for the talent differential.

#3 Texas Tech vs. #14 Montana State Betting Tips:

I generally try to stay away from big lines, but this is such a lopsided match-up that I can’t help myself.

Texas Tech ranked second in defensive efficiency this season while Montana State is about 100 spots lower than them. They beat Iowa State, a higher ranked team in the tournament, by thirty not that long ago and I can see them doing it again here.

#3 Purdue vs. #14 Yale Betting Tips:

I know what I just said, but come on. It’s Yale versus one of the best teams out of the Big Ten.

Here’s how Yale fared against some other tournament teams: Seton Hall (lost by 36), Auburn (lost by 22), and Saint Mary’s (lost by 17).

#7 USC vs. #10 Miami Betting Tips:

This line is close to a pick ’em, but it feels to me like USC is the much better team.

USC is a great rebounding team and should dominate that end. They also get a lot of blocks and have the better defense. If things get tight in this game, that is what is going to make the difference.

Pick: Bet USC -1.5

#6 Alabama vs. #11 Notre Dame Betting Tips:

We normally don’t think of rest when it comes to the tournament, but the double-overtime game that Notre Dame played on Wednesday could definitely have an effect on them here. Cormac Ryan, Prentiss Hubb, and Blake Wesley all played over 42 minutes and the team only used seven players in that game. Six of those players played over 33 minutes. That’s a lot of minutes.

Alabama is not a team I trust going deep as they lost four of their last six games of the season, but there is a good squad in there if they can put it together. They have wins over Kentucky, Gonzaga, Houston, Auburn, and Tennessee this season so we know they can do it. It just remains to be seen if they will.

For this game with the rest advantage, I think the answer is yes.

#6 Texas vs. #11 Virginia Tech Betting Tips:

The #6/#11 is always good for an upset and this is probably my favorite match-up of the bunch. The stats have these two teams as pretty even, but their recent play tells a different story.

Texas has lost three straight to end the season and they haven’t made it out of the first round in their last three tournament appearances. While Virginia Tech won four straight to end the season and 13 out of their last 15.

Pick: Bet Virginia Tech +1

#2 Duke vs. #15 Cal State Fullerton Betting Tips:

Duke is a good team, but they are also way overseeded. I’m not sure if it’s because of the story around Coach K’s last season or what, but there are much better teams in this tournament with lower seeds.

I don’t think they are losing here, but 19 points? I just don’t see it. Cal State Fullerton has a better defense and plays a lower scoring game than Duke. If they can slow things down then they should easily keep things under a 20-point blowout.

#6 LSU vs. #11 Iowa State Betting Tips:

Two teams that are absolutely limping into the tournament. Iowa State has dropped three straight while LSU lost four of seven. LSU fired their head coach before the tournament with a controversy looming. They have an interim coach now and any game this team plays could be his last.

Heading into all this I would probably go with LSU, but I think that lack of stability will hurt them here and at the very least this one will be close.

Pick: Bet Iowa State +4

#7 Michigan State vs. #10 Davidson Betting Tips:

This game will practically be a home game for Davidson as it takes place just 100 miles from the campus and should see a large contingent of fans traveling to it.

Davidson is the better offensive team and they shoot the three well and turn the ball over less.

This one could be close, but I like the upset here.

Pick: Bet Davidson +1

#3 Wisconsin vs. #14 Colgate Betting Tips:

Colgate started the season 4-10 and finished it 19-1. They are one of the hottest teams heading into the tournament and Wisconsin should have their hands full here.

This game is in Milwaukee, not far from Madison, so the Badgers should have a home court advantage here.

The Colgate offense is good though. They shot 40% for the year on three-pointers and that could become a problem for Wisconsin. This could be an upset, but honestly with a line this big I’m just betting on it being a close game. I don’t think Wisconsin will have an easy time with this offense.

Pick: Bet Colgate +7.5
