This week in golf, my full focus is on the 99th PGA Championship.

I’ve had a pretty solid year so far with the majors, such as my pick of Matt Kuchar at the Open Championship and Justin Rose at the Masters. Neither won but they both got the place cash which was nice and kept us interested all weekend long.

The Open Championship this year takes place at Quail Hollow which is nice because we have course form to go on for this one. Quail Hollow has hosted the Wells Fargo Championship for years and a lot of the big hitters have performed here. Fowler and Rory have wins on the course.

The odds are interesting with it being very tight at the top. Makes it tough to figure out what’s playable there.

Here are my thoughts on the PGA Championship and the bets that I’ll be making:

PGA Championship 2017 Betting Tips:

Hideki Matsuyama: Matsuyama is coming off the WGC victory. The guy is in the zone and when he’s in the zone, it’s best to bet him. He’s been quite weak on this course in the past but still performed well. I’m not fully solid but I’m fine with backing him at 1/2 unit to win.

Rickie Fowler: I practically feel obligated to pick Fowler here. I’ve picked him quite often lately and his form has been consistent. He’s won on this course before and performed well here. Honestly? I don’t think he has what it takes. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see a typical Sunday Rickie show up. However I’m going to bet a unit on him to win and E/W.

Xander Schauffele: He’s never played here however his brief Majors history so far has seen him with a 5th place and a 20th place – both very impressive. The youngster seems to be handling it all well. I was very impressed with his performance in the US Open as he outdid himself in round 1, struggled a bit in round 2 but found himself again and had a solid final round. He’s worth a quarter unit bet to win and E/W and had that great win at the Greenbrier Classic recently.

Phil Mickelson: Excellent performances here over the years and of course he has decent Majors performances too. At his price, well worth a 1/2 unit bet to win & E/W.

PGA Championship 2017 Long Shot Bets:

Finally just for fun I’ve picked out a few long shots that I’ll be throwing a 1/4 of a unit on. I don’t really expect anything from them but it’s something I do most Majors – really helps for the early rounds too when watching.

  • Luke List
  • Tony FInau
  • Gary Woodland
  • James Hahn

All a 1/4 unit to win & E/W.
