Premier League Darts 2013 Night Nine (Brighton) Premium Picks.

Tonight’s the night that two men go home from the Premier League Darts “tour”. Wes Newton, Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis and Simon Whitlock all face the dreaded “relegation” introduced by Sky during the Premier League hiatus. Newton, in his debut season, has gone about as well as people thought, picking up a hard-fought win here and there. However, he’ll be buoyed by his success in the European Tour event over the Easter weekend. Gary Anderson has his doubling to blame, as a win last week over Newton would have eased his stress just a little bit. Adrian Lewis wasn’t helped by a slow start and some woeful performances, but he’s turned a corner and looks to be picking up some kind of form. In a week where he lost the World No.2 spot to Michael van Gerwen, Jackpot will be looking to prove his doubters wrong. And that leaves us with the enigma that is Simon Whitlock. One week he’s outstanding, the next he’s throwing garbage. He needs to be on top form to stay in the competition. There are six other men, but Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Raymond van Barneveld, Robert Thornton, Andy Hamilton and James Wade are all safe thanks to a consistent 8 weeks of Premier League Darts matches.

Gary Anderson Vs James Wade.

The first of the night’s “judgement” games, and Gary Anderson is unfortunately having to face an in-form James Wade. Wade’s coming off the back of a win against Michael van Gerwen, while Anderson looks shocking on the doubles.

James Wade to beat Gary Anderson: 5/6 @ 888sport.

Phil Taylor Vs Robert Thornton.

No dramas for either man in tonight’s match, but they’ll be wanting to set the second half of their season up with a win. Thornton has been firing in the big averages and the big finishes over the first 8 weeks, while Taylor finally got his act together, went back to his old darts and started playing like the Taylor we all know and some of us love. Thornton was Taylor bogey player last year, so this could be close.

Wes Newton Vs Andy Hamilton:

Another match where relegation is a worry for one of the players. Everyone predicted a hard time for Wes Newton in the Premier League, and that’s more or less come to fruition. Andy Hamilton’s second season has been patchy, but a big win against Phil Taylor helped keep him in contention for a semi-final spot, instead of having to fight to avoid relegation. Newton will be fired up after his win at the weekend, but I don’t know if it’ll be enough to keep him in the competition, especially if other results don’t go his way.

Andy Hamilton to score most 180s Vs Wes Newton: 11/8 @ 888sport.

Michael van Gerwen Vs Simon Whitlock.

Michael van Gerwen proved over the weekend that he DOES lose in the big floor tournaments, but he wasn’t disgraced in defeat over the weekend. He’ll be hoping to bounce back against Simon Whitlock, after his defeat at the hands of James Wade in Glasgow last week. Whitlock desperately needs a win here and for results to have gone his way earlier in the night. If not, he’s got an uphill battle to beat MVG.

Michael van Gerwen to score most 180s Vs Simon Whitlock: 8/11 @ <888sport.

Adrian Lewis Vs Raymond van Barneveld:

Relegation could be decided by this point, so there’s no point in going for a match winner here. I do think Barney is the play, but if Lewis needs the win, who knows what might happen? That being said, Lewis has been playing better darts recently, and has shown some fight that wasn’t evident at the start of the Premier League Darts season. Barney losing to Taylor last week wasn’t a bad result, as he did average just under 103, and that was with hitting 13% of his doubles. Barney’s playing well, Lewis could go well, enjoy the fireworks.

Over 6.5 180s in Lewis Vs Van Barneveld match: 5/6 @ 888sport.

Recommend: 1.5 units.
