The first Sunday of the NFL season is in the books and this week really had all the things you expect from an early NFL game. A team losing their franchise quarterback to an injury (sorry, Jags), a tie game, the Patriots winning big, and the much hyped team of the off-season losing their first game. The answer to all the questions you may have about your team or any other team is, it’s early. Teams start 0-1 all the time and win the Super Bowl. Relax.

There are two games tonight as has become tradition for the first week of the NFL season. We have an outstanding match-up as the Texans take on the Saints in the early game while the second game is the Denver Broncos facing the drama filled Oakland Raiders. It should be a good one.

This weekend in MLB saw the Milwaukee Brewers take two of three from the Cubs to really open up the race. The Brewers and Phillies are now just two games back of the Cubs with the Diamondbacks being 1.5 back. Milwaukee and Arizona are both red hot right now and are starting series with the Marlins and Mets, respectively. We could see one or both continue to climb.

NFL Betting Tips:

Houston Texans at New Orleans Saints: Oh when the Saints! Come marching in! Oh when the Saints come marching in!

I am a big fan of the depth that the Saints bring. They are able to rotate players in and out of the game, keeping everyone fresh. That is a luxury that a lot of teams in their position can’t enjoy, but that have done an outstanding job with it. New Orleans should be highly motivated for this one as they believe the Super Bowl was stolen from them last year and are out to prove they can do it again.

While the Texans are definitely in on this season, the trade of Jadeveon Clowney hurts. That takes their defense from a dominant one to a very good one. Against most teams that won’t hurt, but against Drew Brees? I don’t like it.

Bet Saints -6.5

Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders: The Antonio Brown situation dominated headlines for the last week of the preseason while the Raiders strong preseason record was mostly ignored. That situation should really motivate this team here today. I think the situation with Brown should give them something to prove and the match-up is ripe for it.

Especially when you consider Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco. He lost his job in Baltimore last season and when you do that, it’s hard for me to have much faith in you. The Broncos defense has talent and they should keep this game near the low total, but the Raiders have something to prove here and I believe they’ll do it.

Bet Raiders +2.5

MLB Betting Tips:

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox: The Yankees are so good they got the Red Sox to fire their President of Baseball Operations one year after winning the World Series. That’s power.

They should continue their dominant ways here today. James Paxton hasn’t had the type of season that everyone expected, but he still has talent and he has the best bullpen in the game behind him.

The Red Sox bullpen is not that and Eduardo Rodriguez is not James Paxton. This line is close, but that seems like the sportsbook is just being polite. The Yanks got this one and will continue their dominance over Boston this season.
