It was a thrilling end to the SBS Tournament of Champions last week with Justin Thomas fending off Hideki Matsuyama to get the big win.

The performance from Thomas over the last little while has been very interesting and with this win you already have many talking about whether he’s going to join that “elite” group usually found at the top of the standings.

It’s going to be interesting. The issues he had at the 15th hole aren’t the performance of the “elite” in my opinion – Matsuyama really should have taken over there.

We got a nice little win by taking Jordan Spieth for a Top 4 finish. Spieth finished tied for 3rd after a nice final day. Unfortunately Dead Heat rules means we don’t get all the money back we wanted but hey getting a cash on the first week of the year is fine with me:

This week in golf we have the BMW SA Open Championship and the Sony Open.

Sony Open 2017 Betting Tips:

The Sony Open has had some erratic form and results over the years so past performance is generally not a big indicator of how people will do here. There are a few who can get solid results but weather is a factor too.

My first bet is a unit on Jimmy Walker to win or E/W. Jimmy started off strong last week and I’m hoping he can keep that form going at the Sony Open on a course where he has won twice so far. He’s had respectable finishes other times here with 13th last year and 4th a few years ago.

It might be because it’s been awhile since I’ve bet on golf and I’m just in the gambling mood but I feel like a few quarter unit bets on long shots. Based primarily on past form here regardless of weather I’m taking quarter unit bets to win & E/W on Zac Blair, Charles Howell III, Hudson Swafford and Si-Woo Kim. Like I said it’s mostly past performances plus with Kim playing last week despite a disappointing performance he had a solid day 3 and I think he might gain some focus for this week.

And you know what – one final quarter unit bet on Zach Johnson who I think may be a surprise this year.

BMW SA Open 2017 Betting Tips:

The most notable changes on this course took place in 2013. Form wise that’s the ones you want to pay attention to.

With the break I’m hesitant to make any serious picks. You never know who is coming out struggling or not so I only have a couple of picks – all quarter units to win and E/W.

First up is Trevor Fisher Jr. who has had 5 respectable finishes here. Not sure if he has what it takes to break the Top 5 but I feel he’s worth backing.

Also Lee Slattery who had some average form to end the year but generally starts the year off strong. The break could be good for him.

I liked what I saw from Dean Burmester previously and I’m on him as well.

Finally George Coetzee.

That’s it for me this week and man – I’m just so excited to have the golf back. So excited to spend my days watching it.
