One more day of tips, then we get into the 2nd round of games which I’m more looking forward to. That way I can base it a lot more on tactics etc rather than just theories and expectations. Looking forward to that.

Looking back at yesterdays games, I thought Croatia really looked good in the first half. They looked a complete unit that were solid in defence, could do the build-up play well as well as counter attack, look lethal at set pieces etc. Fell apart a bit in the second half but I saw a lot of positives from them.

Germany – they handed the game to Japan. They should have put it to bed. One thing I was really impressed at was that half time sub and tactical change to thwart Raum. That was a smart move.

Won with Spain and Torres scoring, and what I said above about basing it more on what we see? Well that applies to Belgium. I did not expect that at all from them. They made some solid adjustments at half time but that really didn’t help them out too much offensively.

The thing about that one is – even if you told me Belgium were going to be overrun and look very slow and sloppy, I don’t think there is a winning bet I could have came up with anyway. Canada’s finishing was brutal but knowing what I learned from that game I’d certainly expect Canada to score.

Let’s get Thursdays covered:

Switzerland vs Cameroon:

Switzerland were very solid in qualification and finished ahead of Italy. They also finished the UEFA Nations League strong with three wins in a row over Portugal, Spain and the Czech Republic.

Cameroon scraped through in ridiculous fashion with that injury time winner by Too Ekambi in extra time against Algeria.

Yann Sommer is expected to play for the Swiss even if match sharpness isn’t going to be top of the line. Cameroon really don’t come in on form but they do have some good goalscorer including Choupo-Moting who is on fire.

I’m conflicted in regards to BTTS & Switzerland win. I do quite fancy Switzerland and have been a fan of them, but Cameroon have the goalscoring ability. I’m going to go with 0.5u Switzerland to win at 1.75 odds. Honestly feels like a Switzerland win 1-0 type of game.

Uruguay vs South Korea:

South Korea are not a team you want to underestimate and this will be a very good game I expect.

Uruguay are a team I quite fancy for this World Cup though with that nice mix of experience, maturing players and youth.

South Korea like to play a possessive game. I think that will make things tougher for them against opposition like Uruguay. We saw how the tactics worked against Brazil.

Uruguay use a 4-2-2-2 formation that seems to be working out very well. Their one biggest issue is counter attacks and defending against them but as long as they stay strong at the back, they shouldn’t have that concern here.

Portugal vs Ghana:

Portugal are heavy favourites at 1.40. Have to wonder how Ronaldo’s mental game is going into this one. Honestly with how he has regressed I bet Portugal are counting the days until he he retires.

I feel Portugal will have issues. They struggle to add onto leads and look vulnerable attempting to protect. But Ghana are a defensive side and aren’t too good offensively.

Brazil vs Serbia:

It doesn’t feel like a World Cup only we see the yellow and blue of Brazil out there.

This should be a great game if Serbia play their usual kind of attacking football. They also don’t have a consistent and steady goalkeeper which is not great going against a team like Brazil.

I’m good on 1u on over 2.5 goals at 1.72 odds for this one. Brazil can score against anyone no matter the team and how they play. If Serbia attack, they’ll be punished. If Serbia park the bus, they should be punished against Brazil and the way they play that high possession game. Plus if Serbia attack it opens up the chances of more goals.
