On June 17th, 2014 we will see the second games of Group A start, with Brazil taking on Mexico. The next day Cameroon will take on Croatia.

Both Brazil and Mexico go into this game with wins. Brazil defeated Croatia 3-1 although that result doesn’t tell the whole story – this was a very even game with Brazil getting a victory they probably didn’t deserve. A draw was the fairer result in that one – and Pletikosa will be kicking himself because he had a legitimate chance to save all three Brazilian goals. You also have to wonder how much of Brazil’s lack of oomph was simply due to nerves.

Mexico beat Cameroon 1-0 and it was a very disappointing performance by Cameroon. They simply didn’t adapt to Mexicos tactics of having 3 centre backs, and that was what caused them issues. We did see changes after the game had swung in Mexicos favour, but there was nothing too dangerous and the defense of Mexico helpd up well, with Mexico dominating possession at 58%.

Brazil vs Mexico Betting Odds:

Brazil To Win: 1/3

Brazil vs Mexico Betting Tips:

Mexicos 3 centre backs held up well against Cameroon – but they’re going to struggle hard against Brazil. They pushed up their wing backs a lot in the first game, but if they do that against Brazil then Hulk and Oscar or Neymar are going to punish them.

Either way – we like the Brazilians to punish them. We do think Brazil were affected by pre-match jitters – hard not to be, not just being the host country but with all the issues in Brazil leading up to the World Cup. I mean hell you’ve saw how that country has reacted – people were expecting riots etc but after the Brazil win they’re now celebrating like crazy etc. That’s a lot of pressure to be under!

1/3 odds just isn’t worth betting Brazil to win – not when there is value elsewhere, which I’ll discuss in the betting props section.

The Over/Under is a tricky one too. The system leans towards Over 2.5 goals – but not at 7/10 odds. it generally likes a 3-0 Brazil win for whenever it goes Over 2.5 goals and it’s just not worth betting that with those odds.

For this game let’s look at the betting props:

Brazil vs Mexico Betting Props:

This is where we’re going to see some action.

We like Brazil to win obviously, so it’s a case of looking at the bets based on that, and going with one of them.

Brazil-Brazil for half time/full time is tempting at 4/5 odds. However instead we’re going to go with the handicap result of Brazil -1. We do like half time/full time bets but it can be tricky – and here we are confident enough in Brazil winning to go with the handicap.

You can go with the Asian handicap of -1.5 for slightly better odds, but we’re going to stick with the straight handicap result of Brazil -1. We like Brazil to win this by 2-3 goals, however the price of Brazil -2 at 9/4 is just not worth it.

Bet Brazil -1.
